  • Dean EVO Special Select??

If any of you guys have these, have you ever had any issues with them? I'm thinking about picking up a used one we have at work for downtuned stuff.

I had an EVO Phantom, since renamed the EVO Noir. Awesome guitar, best stock pickups I've ever played, and some of the best upper fret access I've found on a set-neck guitar. I was actually thinking of getting a Special Select in Tiger Eye finish, but was increasingly dissatisfied with TOM bridges and ended up selling the Dean to pay for a Charvel bass.

If they offered an EVO with a Floyd, I'd have to consider it. Great guitars for not much money.

I had a Special Select in trans black. It was a really nice guitar - no major issues. The pickups sound good and the neck profile is between a 50's and 60's Les Paul - not too fat and not too thin. The upper fret access is a dream. If you can find one in the upper $300's, then go for it. Otherwise, I would save up just a little and get the European ones, which are really nice and on par with the US stuff.

Well I can get this one for $200, so I guess it's pretty fair then?

They look beautiful and are pretty solid! The neck has a D shape I believe which I like. The finish on the neck is a little sticky and plasticky IMO, but nothing a little polish or GHS Guitar Gloss can't fix. Trow in some Duncans or DiMarzios and you're golden!

I think I'm gonna get it. The only problem I have with it could be the toggle switch position, but that can be moved down where the tone knob is fairly easy. I just want something to put in low tunings that doesn't have a trem.

I have the EVO 7 and it smokes! I popped in a TZ bridge and Air Norton neck. Yummy!

Well I was gonna put it on layaway at the end of the day on Saturday, but around 5 pm some kid came in with his dad and bought it. I was kinda sad at first but really it's going to a better place...this kid only had a cheap Peavey guitar. Now he's got a nice one, so I guess it worked out for the best.

Yo, Boxcar...wonderful attitude about the whole thing, bro. It woulda been nice to have it, sure...but to a kid who's moving up to something better, it's like a dream come true.

With an attitude like that, something good's gonna come your way. Guitar karma, and all that.

I was just in a store today that had a huge display of Deans-damn are they gorgeous guitars! They had a sweet V...drool. THey make Gibbys and PRS's look like dimestore guitars. I agree with Crankdaddy-you are probably better off waiting until you find something that yoiu can't resist. Take pleasure in knowing that the kid who bought it is probably at home sleeping witht hat Dean under his pillow!

Well my car failed inspection today, and I have to spend $350 to get it fixed so it looks like no new guitar for a while...but that won't stop me from looking!
