  • Epi Les Paul neck question

This is a quick one. I just wanted to know if all Epiphone Les Pauls have a maple neck. I hate painted necks and tried an Epi LP Zakk Wylde earlier with the maple neck and it was cool. So I was wondering if I could get like an Epi LP Standard and stripp the paint off the neck if it's not mahogany.

On a side note, I'm in Boston visiting my buds at Berklee. It is so the wrong time for a New Yorker to be in Boston! I got into a bar fight last night!

The Epiphone website will tell you that everything is mahogany neck except for the Zakk, Connolly, Ace, & Lynyrd.

I have the Zakk (and the John Connolly) and they do feel nice.

If you don't like the feel of a painted neck you could use 0000 steel wool to take some of the gloss out. Also, there's probably someone here on JCF that have sanded off the paint on a mahogany neck and can tell you what it felt like. I don't see why it wouldn't feel just as good. I have a Larrivee acoustic with mahogany neck and it feels great

I sanded the paint of an old Epi SG neck that was mahogany-I oiled it and it was real nice and smooth. I'm not sure how well mahogany will do without a real "finish" on it, as far as humidity changes and warpage, though.
