• Why doesn't Gibson use Floyds?

Is there any particular reason why they don't offer Floyd bridges standard on their guitars like the LP? I'd love to get a Gibson in the future when I can afford one, but I really can't stand the tune o matic bridge.

I'm pretty sure it has to do with GIbson maintaining their "traditional" style, without a huge hunk of metal sticking out of the guitars, and routing out a huge hole in the back. I also wonder if it has to do with Fender owning the FLoyd Rose name, and Gibson not wanting to pay money to their major competitor. I also wonder why the MF catalog has about thirty pages of Fender guitars, and none have an OFR? Seems silly to own something and then not use it.

Because a floyd rose on a gibson is like watching midget sex while eating a sandwich.

It's more cost effective to slap a "Licensed By Floyd Rose" on their their cheaper models, thus keeping prices down.

Gibson DID offer floyds, back in 1989, as an option in the series called the Custom Lite (but like many people think that doing this is 'blasphemy', I guess Gibson didn't make too many!). Keep searching and you'll find one pop up on ebay again. It is a Schaller floyd and even has the "Gibson" name on the floyd, and is the thinner body from the Lite series. I was lucky and got mine for $450 w/case. I've seen them more in the range of $600-800 when they pop up.

You can also get a floyd on a Les Paul shape thru ESP (search under Eclipse) here's my custom shop one:

Here's a couple floyd Eclipse's on ebay:

Gibson also had model called V-90 Double with floyd option.
Check this site for pics of it in the gallery. Flying V site
If I remember right Gibson also made same style explorer.

They may be making a Les Paul Neal Schon signature model with a real Floyd in the near future. Neal has several prototypes and look like a Gold Top. I don't know when the production will start. Neal said, "Send them a note". The custom shop will make one for the asking.

This is supposedly an early pic. of the Neal Schon sig. Supposed to have a flat top, longer scale length, & Fernandes Sustainer pickup system. Its almost guaranteed that Gibson will be asking way too much $ for it, but I am hoping they won't.

Great looking guitar, but a floyd really does look funny and out of place on a Les Paul.

I've seen a few LP's with Floyds on them. They were all installed after market, but it seems so fitting. The tone of the Paul and the flexability of the Floyd. I've been using Floyds since the 80's, so an LP with a Floyd would never hurt my feelings! LOL! Plus they look cool anyway.
