Re: please help me decide on a neck

When I first saw the Ebony one, I was thinking "maple might look better witht the blonde hair." But then I saw the maple and it really does distract from the graphic. Def. go with ebony on this one.

Dude: If looks is your major consideration then go with ebony. My opinion is you put together the features of a guitar to get the tone you want.
Screw looks. Lots of players find old ugly guitars and equipment that just rocks. Many players have endorsed one manufacturer and played another guitar on stage because of the sound and tone.
Maple will give you the most resonance and a tight bottom end.
Ebony is better than rosewood for sound. Ebony has a looser bottom end than Maple. Ebony will also dampen the sound a bit.
However, with an ebony fingerboard you get a nice quick snap back after your fingers hit the neck. If you do a lot of hammer on or tapping technique ebony may be easier to play for some people.
Personally I like the look of a darker fingerboard but I like the sound and resonance of a Maple one.
PLAY TILL U DIE !!!

Thanks Shredmonster, in this case actually the looks were the major consideration, I do have 50 + other guitars and already several with a maple neck and actually have (at present) no alder + maple/ebony combination so even soundwise this would be an addition to the herd. I often swap necks on my guitars till I find the magic combination so in the near future the neck may be swapped out for another one but for now the ebony stays on
