Well after looking at all your LP pix I started to Jones a bit so….
I got me an amber, flame top Love Rock. (Veneer over alder cap) The E-Bay store I got it from calls it a “Slash Model”.
First; the guitar was in tune after the trip from Ontario to BC so I took that as a good sign. It was set up great but, I brought the action down a bit for my liking.
This is not “New buyer bliss” either. I expected to do a bunch of tweaking and I also expected to upgrade some parts.
The fret board is very dark rosewood and the grain is nice and tight. The inlays sure look MOP but I’m not sure if they are. (Even the Tokai logo is inlayed) The frets are medium, highly polished and even straight down the board. No buzz what so ever! I had plans on taking the finish off the neck which is why I didn’t go for a real LP, but it feels damn good so I will wait on that mod for now.
The flame top is very bright and deep for veneer and no flaws that I can see. Binding is great all over too.
The pups are another think I expected to change but they sound great too. Apparently they are molded after the Duncan alnico II.
Now the hard ware and electronics I compared with my Agile Ghost since they are both made in Korea. Well…there is no comparison at all. The Agile pots feel like they will twist right off if I’m not gentle but, the Tokai feels tight. The toggle isn’t loose and flimsy either. I already gave it a machine gun shake! I opened the back and the soldering is pro, even has shielding all over the cavity.
The tone is just what you would expect from an LP, bottom end with bite and sustain.
The over all fit and finish was as good as my custom shop XTRR! No ****!
Its weight is the only thing I will need to get used to.
It beats the crap out of any Epi LP I have ever played, no comparison! The two Zakk LP’s I played were nice and I do like the un finished maple neck better, but the frets and fret board just puts this over the top. The fit & finish is better too. I have played a ton of real LP’s and this holds up to many of those, as far as plug and play and fit & finish.
It was defiantly more than I expected, they paid a lot of attention to detail and it only cosmetic difference is the little tip they put in the center of the open book head. Much more true to the real deal than the epi head.
I’ll try to get some pix tomorrow.
It was $ 499 US BTW
