Re: Most stupid ideas to wrought upon guitar histo

actually I'm quite fond of my speedloader, break a string and within 10 second I have replaced the string and it's in tune (try that with an OFR or even a hard tail for that matter)
A shop close to me sells the strings so I'm not afraid of running out

I´m with Paddok and Toejam, Minitoggles and Kahlers rock!

Worst Ideas:
1. (by a long shot) The JEM "Monkey grip".
2. Not blowing up the ESP factory when we still had time in the early ´80s
3. Dito for Ibanez

and the worst thing of all....
Guitars with 3 mini toggles for pickup selection.

[/ QUOTE ]
The 3 on/off mini toggles rock!!! I got a H/S/S Dinky body last year that I'm having refinned. It had a five-way switch slot that's being filled in and the 3 mini toggles are being put in. When I had my Model 6, I really loved that feature.

It is a royal pain in the butt to switch from neck to bridge when you are playing live and I would guess that the majority of lead players switch from bridge to neck on a regular basis.... at least I do.

Re: Most stupid ideas to wrought upon guitar histo

Here's a few:
Those metal loaded Kramers were pretty stupid
The original Brian Moore MC1s had no means of accessing the trem spring cavity
George Lynch's 7 string where one string started halfway up the neck
Rotary pickup selectors (PRS etc)
Jackson JT6 (sorry, but they're crap)
BC Riches with a million controls
Guitars with sliding pickups (see George Lynch again!)

I'm sure there are many more!
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

here's my list:
<ul type="square">[*]Jackson Warrior - sorry fellas, them are dorky lookin' geetars[*]36 fret guitars - go buy a fuckin' mandolin[*]aluminum necks[*]Washburn Wonderbar (at least that's what I think it's called)[*]3 mini-toggle pickup selection - I agree with everything JGCable said about 'em - a push-pull pot gets you all 7 combos far more effectively than them damn switches[*]crackle paint jobs - dork-o-rama[*]guitars with on-board effects - except for Danny Gatton - everything he did was great[*]double cutaway acoustic guitars - yucko[*]"V" shaped basses
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

My list...flame suit on...LOL!

1. KAHLERS
2. Floyd Speedloader
3. Gibson in the late 70's to late 80's
4. Post mid-90's ESP
5. Post mid 80's Ibanez
6. Post mid 80's BC Rich
7. In particular...the BC Rich Beast. Bernie Jr's idea that he could make a pointy guitar that could "out-point" Neal's designs...LOL!

Those who bashed Rickenbacker....if it weren't for Rick...we probably wouldn't have a lot of the design techniques we have today. Neck thru construction, or even the first solidbody electrified guitar for that matter! (I neither like or dislike Ricks....but to each their own)

Re: Most stupid ideas to wrought upon guitar histo

I had always thought the mini-toggle idea was a bad one, until I received my GMW with this set up. It actually works pretty well and does look very cool. A three way with a coil tap on the tone is more functional and easy to use, no question, but the mini switches work too.

I'll add the Washburn Wonderbar to the gripe list, along with all those assugly Guild's from the 80's.
Tarbaby Fraser.

I'll throw in the LSR roller nut and the whammy pedal.

I must add in that I love crackle finishes. hah. I'll admit though, that I hate the JT6 and the Kahler locking nut.
