Re: The ESP Eclipse (Les Paul style) thread!!!

Forgive my stupidity (or so far lack of adequate research), but what is the difference between an Eclipse I and Eclipse II?

Re: The ESP Eclipse (Les Paul style) thread!!!

The Eclipse I had a flat top (like ToeJam's GoldTop above)... the Eclipse II has an archtop like a Gibson LP. The option of EMGs on certain color options is also a nice touch IMHO.

That pic is of a 24 fret LTD, mine is a 22 fret ESP. Mine doesn't have the abalone binding or the faced headstock, but otherwise that looks pretty close.

Re: The ESP Eclipse (Les Paul style) thread!!!

I have this one coming my way. It should be here on Tuesday. Supposedly was owned by Izzy Stradlin from GnR. The day after he and I sealed our deal, he got a call from a guy who allegedly teched for GnR on their first two tours and confirmed that it was Izzy's (he had four of them made for him) and offered him up a Les Paul that Slash had once owned in trade. To his credit, he didn't back out of his deal with me. I'll be looking for a Floyd to put this thing back to it's original configuration. This will be my first "real" ESP.

Here's a link to the ended auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEWA:IT

          Enjoy!

Izzy plays one in the Sweet Child video. I think it was a typical one with the ESP floyd.

Well, anyway, this one originally had the Floyd, but someone converted it to a hardtail without adding any holes. I'll be interested to see how that was done but it won't be a hardtail for long! Izzy's or not, it's a cool guitar, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it until I find the right Soloist.

Very cool, Chris!! The black one in my local GC also says Eclipse Custom on the headstock, but it's got a TOM/stoptail.

Wow, I always just thought that was a Tele with a pointy head and never realized it was an original ESP Eclipse! Pretty cool.

I love this one on ESP's website:

All mahogany body, ebony board, triple binding, 2vol/2tone/3-way (perfect!), gold hardware, Sperzels, extra-jumbo frets, 24.75" scale!!! I'm in love!

For some reason, Music123.com says it's an ebony NECK. I would have thought it's a mahogany neck. Never heard of ebony being used for necks before. And ESP's website is a little ambiguous as well but I interpreted it as ebony on mahogany which makes more sense.

Anyone want to compare this Standard Eclipse II I posted with other ESP/LTD Eclipses? Or maybe to other guitars? Seems like a fantastic guitar with all the features that I want for a killer price.

^thats james hetfield influenced. if you check out his 1973 Gibbo LP Custom, this particular Eclipse Model is loosely based on it. minus the lower toggle of course.

I'm not a Metallica fan by any stretch of the means so I didn't realize that, and I don't really mind either way. It's still everything I want in a black Les Paul style guitar and it's perfect. And I really don't mind that it doesn't say Gibson on the headstock... the price for the ESP is totally right for me, as are some of the differing features (EMGs which I will swap for EMG-89s anyways, large frets, probably a more comfortable neck to me, etc.).

The trans-finished Eclipses are killer-looking but I'm anal and don't like owning electric guitars unless they're black, and acoustic guitars have to be natural. I dunno why.

"Right you are Ken!" Earlier this evening when I showed my brother the black ESP Eclipse II on ESP's website, he exclaimed, "ESP?!?!? I thought you were a Jackson man!"

Neilli, that's absolutely killer. God damn, I'm getting GAS. I haven't even touched an Eclipse before and I know I want one next. Very few guitars make that kind of impression on me!

Are there any decent online dealers (not M.F. or similar "superstores") that have good prices on ESPs? My local dealer only ever has low end LTDs and will only take 10% of the retail price on ESPs if they have to order them.
