Strap button help with my acoustic

Hi people.
I just have a little itty bitty question here...

I need another strap button on my Takamine. I have the one on the bottom and that's it. For my strap I have to do the tie on thing at the headstock and I hate that!

How do I put another strap button on there? [img]/images/graemlins/help.gif[/img]

some people put them strraight into the flat part at the back of the neck heel, others put them up on top of the neck heel. Avois screwing them into the sides of the guitar, because the wood is very thin and won't grip well. Stick tot he solid wood at the neck joint and place it wherever it feels comfortable and doesn't interfere with your playing.

Here's where I put the button on my Takamine. I found this to be the best place.

Its not too hard. Just use an awl or a small nail to make an indentation where the hole needs to be drilled. Then drill your hole with a hand drill.....be sure to keep it straight. Then screw in your strap button. Work carefully & you should be fine.

That's just where I was thinking would be best for mine as well. I appreciate the instructions too- putting a hole in my guitar freaks me out. This will work just fine. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

Depending on your finish, you may also want to put a piece of blue tape over where you're drilling, so you can't crack the lacquer. I'd also recommend drilling a VERY small hole first, then drill a larger hole.

And I would use a power drill, but be VERY careful, do the tape thing, and start with the smallest hole you can make. Ideally you final drill bit should be the width of the shaft of the screw MINUS THE THREADS. So when you hold the bit and the screw up to the light, with the bit in front of the screw, you can only see the threads of the screw sticking out passed the bit.

I was about to do the same thing. BUT...

If you put the strapholder there though, will it still fit properly in a standard hard case?

It would seem to me the guitar would not lie flat, and that the neck would not rest on the neck rest, putting the guitar in a precarious position during transport.

I believe I've seen some strap pins on the side of the neck heel. That way, it would be out of the way when putting the guitar in the case.

I was just in a pawn shop this afternoon (I decided to brave one) and found two Takamines. A 12-string and a G-series. Both of them had strap buttons located on the side of the neck heel.
This will work better for me, and my guitar will fit in its case just fine. I had occurred to me this morning that the button right on the back of the neck heel wouldn't allow my guitar to lie flat.
Taping before I drill is an excellent idea. That hadn't occurred to me! [img]/images/graemlins/eek.gif[/img] I've got some tape that will work just fine. I don't have a lacquered finish on my guitar (pretty, but not my thing). I'm still taping though.
