  • Hamer Californian

Not a bad guitar. I like bolt on necks for one thing.
This has a great neck with 27 frets to boot.

    This one is a keeper.

I prefer my Jackson PC1 but the Californian is not a bad guitar at all.

Very comfortable and quick maple neck with rosewood fingerboard. One of the fastest necks I have played.

Excellent access to upper frets - all the way up to the 27th fret.

Light guitar. Fairly good tone. All mohagany.

I have heard there were inconsistent production runs on these. Some of them are suppose to be better than others.

Ed Roman claims it to be his all time favorite bolt on neck rock guitar but I take him with a grain of salt.

I have two USA Californians, an Elite and a Deluxe. I've used the Elite for recording, and tomorrow night will play it at a gig for the first time. It has a mahogany body, bound ebony board with boomerang inlays, a Duncan Parallel Axis Tremstack in the neck slot and a DiMarzio PAF Pro at the bridge. A pity they don't still make a USA version...

I did not get it from Ed Roman.

Also, it has EMG pick ups which I am not a big fan of.

I am someday going to have to change the pickups and pods because I like passive pickups.

Oh yeah, this has a tone control. Made in USA. I think it may be a custom or something because my understanding is that these usually do not come with tone controls.

I had a solid flame maple elite which I sold around 5 years ago - excellent guitar but it wasn't a Jackson so I had to let it go!
