  • My friend's new guitar line

My friend and for mer teacher, John Carruthers, has launched a line of guitars with some friends. Check the website, you'll see that they are licensing a VERY original guitar that might be familiar to some collectors out there. From what I know of John, these guitars will be of the HIGHEST quality.

Those Sky guitars are going to cost about $17,000.00!! I love Uli Roth but unless hit the lottery that buy ain't happening for me!
I hope he does well with the line though, and recall seeing a Sky carcass hanging on his shop wall when I took a couple of guitars in for some work. You would never think all that stuff would be safe where it's located in Venice, but I guess it is!

That guitar doesn't appeal to me, never has, never will.

Well, that's fine. But you can't argue that it is a very original guitar with some interesting ideas behind it.

I like the looks of the bass.

I like the Sky guitar but 17k is a bit out of control IMO.

I might buy one for around $3k, but even that is not practical for me.

Re: My friend\'s new guitar line

I just think they're trying to make too much of a killing on the series, considering the R&D was done 20 years ago. As much as I love Uli I don't think they're gonna find 50 guys that revere him AND have the $17 grand to spend on the guitar. After all, most of the things Uli does on the upper frets with a trem can be duplicated with a slide bar on a conventional 7-string guitar. It'd be a great seller in the $3-4K range but if they get 50 takers I'd be real surprised. It's a cool guitar, but as has been said is a bit goofy looking. I certainly wish Mr. Carruthers the best of luck with it though!

Ditto. It is 14k to 15k too expensive.

Well wasn't it the pick-ups that were like $11.000 or something?

Very nice looking guitars. I'd really like one of those basses. However, I can't afford such a price.
