I've got no irons in this fire, but the sheer number of bad stories about this guy is amazing. Has anyone ever had a GOOD deal with him???

Yes. I purchased an SL2H in Red Ghost from Ed in early 2001, based on a friends recommendation. The deal was smooth and the price was great. He was a short tempered little fella, but he made his points while getting mine. I've heard nothing but horror stories since and comments such as, "dude, you coulda been screwed" but my overall experience was ok. I was uneasy about the purchase due to the distance involved and advised him that if I was being f-ed with, I would put a hit out on him. I won't do any further business with ER. With so many reputable dealers hanging around here and trying to earn our business there is no point in taking a second chance with Roman.

Yeah that was from June 2004. I knew that story sounded familiar: "You see I let Scott, (Ed Roman's sales guy), talk me into thinking that Ed Roman's shop could build me a guitar like that of Wayne Charvel's "Monster" for equal or less money plus I could take delivery faster. Sounds great! At the end of the day so to speak however I wound up paying around $350 more for Mr. Roman's oil finished J-Frog "

Hmmm, we always need to remember what Chuckracer just reminded us of: "If it sounds too good to be true...."

My understanding is that he is indepenently wealthy and doesn't have the business to make money, but rather because he likes to collect instruments and hob knob with rock stars. From what I was told his grandfather (greatgrandfather?) or someone else in his family designed a part used in the produciton of Harley Davidsons. I don't know if this is true, but he also is a big Harley dude. That is where his money comes from. I don't know if this is true though.
