my question is this...

in every pic i've seen of his Dean's whats with the neck pickup? the bobbin closest to the neck always looks white?? or is it reflection?

It's what's called a zebra pickup. One bobbin is black, the other is creme/off-white. [img]/images/graemlins/poke.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

but the "white stops right before hitting the last pole piece on top and bottom of the other bobbin though, it doesn;t look like a zebra to me.

it must be a reflection i guess, the pickup ring looks different in michaelm's sig. pic of dime...

Dime did use '59s in the neck. And I believe there's electrical tape on the ends of his pickups for some reason, that's why it looks like the bobbins don't go to the end.

These tapes are to avoid the strings to hit the side of coils when you bend or hit the high or low E strings hard.
I have seen that before on Warren's guitar and some others as well.

Ahhhh, you;re right joe! that perfectly explains it. i forgot about that. that used to happen to me. only a few times though. i know Vai has an Aleister Crowley saying on his tape. konx or something.
