• Dean

Hey all, after the horific event in columbus i decided to look at Deans out of respect for Dime. I have a tendency to do that for my music heroes. For instance when SRV died i went right out and bought a strat even though i didnt really need one and it turned out to be one of my favorite guitars. I have never played a Dean and not sure what model i even want. My question is how are they. Im not interested in cosmetics really. I am wondering how they play, sound, and durability. Any help would be awesome.
RIP DIME

Deans kick ass. There are a lot of Dean fans on this board, myself included. All of us will tell you that they're amazing guitars.

There's a reason Dimebag played them. The model he played was the ML. Recently, he was actually playing an import model on stage, from what I understand. The 79 series...they're amazing guitars for the money.

Bottom line...you won't be disappointed.

I think that Dean is a really good guitar for the money. The older ones are much in demand, and for a good reason!

How much do those Dean 79 series guitars cost, particularly the ML with the Floyd??

Re: Dean

I have seen ones selling around $500-600 on E-bay.
These are not U.S. model though.

There is one ML U.S. made(I think it is limited edition one) on E-bay selling for $1200 BIN and hasn't sold for long time.

I don't know about Korean made models but have heard great things about U.S. made ones.
I am waiting for my Schenker limited.

Re: Dean

I haven't played one, but the new Dean's coming out are absolutely gorgeous instruments. I think the person in charge of the paint shop sold his soul to the devil. Seriously. The one store I was in had one of the Hardtails hanging next to a PRS and it made the PRS look like a piece of horse dung. They actually look like they are still wet. Just from a quick look, they look like they are extremely well made. If you check one out, give us a review!

Re: Dean

I know that the Korean Dean guitars are good stuff, there was an EVO at work that I really wanted for a while. I can't swing a USA one so I might get a 79 Series ML in tribute to Dimebag when I can afford one.

Re: Dean

I have a Korean made ML select (kind of a fancy '79) and I'll be honest, my USA King V doesn't get touched all that much anymore. My Dean is a FANTASTIC playing guitar!

Owned many. USA made... Euro made... Korean made... Speaking about set neck models here. They all kick ass. Great build and very good all around for all types of music.

Re: Dean

I love my Deans. I haven't played the Korean ones, but if they were good enough for Dime, I'm sure they are good enough. I'd stay away from Ebay on the MLs though. People are sadly trying to cash in on Dime's name and take advantage of a tragedy. Go to Dean's site and look up a local dealer and get a good price.

Re: Dean

I've got a '79 series V, they're great. The finish seems pretty hard too, the tips still look perfect and they've taken a few hits.

Re: Dean

USA and Korean Dean's are excellent guitars. Some of the newer cheaper stuff is made in China and I'd probably avoid those. Dean's only real problem is that they produce very few guitars with Floyd Rose trems. I've been trying to get Elliott and Dean to make me a USA ML with a Floyd for several years. That's why Dime was playing Korean Dean's........ they didn't have any USA ML's with a Floyd.

I'm actually still seeing some great deals on Korean "Select" and "79 Series" ML's on eBay. They don't have Floyds but they are nice guitars. I think there are a very few 79 Series guitars with Floyds but they are rare.

Dean USA guitars kick ass. The 79 Series and the discontinued Select series play very nicely.

WOW...nothing but raving reviews. I think i will have to go out and play one and see how she feels. I cant bring myself to by something like that online, especially since i have never even held one. Is there any special model i should look for? Thanks for all the input. I appreciate the comments on a very sensitive subject right now. You guys rock

I see you are from around the Boston area. There is a pretty big Dean dealer in Medford, but I forgot the name. I'm sure you'll find it on the Dean Dealer Locater. As for a model - that's personal preference, but how about a nice Brazilaburst (Tobacco Sunburst) '79 ML in honor of Dime?
