• Schecter custom shop opinions wanted

Just curious about Schecter USA custom shop models. DCGL has several that look very interesting but I've never played a USA model before. Any opinions would be appreciated.

I have been contemplating a custom shop PT also. Which one are you looking at?

Yeah, I always want a PT since I was a kid and saw a video of the It's Hard tour. Anywho, I'm looking at the CET prototype or the Nashville tele. The prices are very reasonable.

I have a USA custom shop sunset-7 that I bought from StuTDavis; it's an incredible guitar. I still feel that I'm really not doing justice to the flexibility and options that having a 7th string gives you and I'm much more comfortable playing a 6 string, but I just can't get rid of this guitar; it sounds and plays amazingly. Incredible tone (swamp ash body, bolt-on maple neck, EMG 707s, and the tightest neck pocket I've ever seen), great workmanship, all around excellent. I think their USA stuff is a total steal used as well in terms of bang-for-your-buck.

I picked up the ICU-7 earlier this year:

The fretwork is excellent, the neck is arrow-straight, and the custom-wound Schecter pups are absolutely brutal. Disappointments: they put the glass eyes in from the rear and paint has sunk revealing the edges of a few of the filled eye holes, and the neck angle didn't seem right when I got it as it was impossible to adjust the action to a reasonable level up high. Some shims cured the neck-angle issue but on a custom-shop piece I except a big detail like that to be done right at the factory. The minor paint issue isn't worth worrying about but it's worth mentioning.

I picked this one up from Jackson @ DCGL. He's a super guy to deal with.

I probably wouldn't buy another Schecter custom ... well unless I can find the Avenger Apocalypse.
