Re: YJM Usa Has Landed!

Re: The Scalloping. I love it! You just have to watch your first position chords where the string tension is the lightest. Fret very lightly. It doesn't take much. It's hard to go back to a standard fretboard, unless it's a Jackson with Jumbo frets of course.

Re: YJM Usa Has Landed!

Mark, I completely discovered that the first note I hit LOL
I finally gave it a good playing tonight.

I had to do a complete set up on it due to the climate change. But now she's as good as gold!

I will say that Fender really managed to capture Yngwies tone with this guitar. And in part from the Dimarzio's as well.
The only drawback I have with this is that the Dimarzios output is VERY weak.
I like extra hot pups so I may have to put a HB or something else in this as it just wont do.
But Im not complaining!

This turned out to be a great B day gift to me.(12-18)
What perfect timing!!

Happy Birthday Scott! Capricorn, I take it? My brother's is the 29th. The PC1 was my Christmas present to myself! If you ever watch any of the Yngwie instructional tapes. (The newer ones), he states that he likes the low output, low noise pickups. He prefers instead to boost it with the YGM pedal (which I have and don't use since I got the PSA-1), or down the signal chain at the amp. He also states he uses the high watt (75W) Celestions, over the 30W vintage speakers in his Marshall cabs, because he doesn't like the cone distortion from the lower wattage speakers. Interesting! You probably know this, Yngwie rarely plays chords. He does a arpeggio in some minor key, then winds down to something like a Am in the first position. It's funny in that G3 video, Satch and Steve are playing chords against his leads, then when they exchange, Yngwie is playing single note passages instead of chords when Satch and Steve are soloing. LOL! It's like "it's too boring to have my fingers staying in one place for too long" Ha, Ha.

Re: YJM Usa Has Landed!

Yup, I know all that ;-)
Im pretty similar in that I dont really do chords and stuff.
And ive always used the 75-85 watt Cel.
Except in my older boogie cab with 200 wat Ev's and 2 ?
But yeah, I have yet to plug it into my PSA-1 yet.
I did plus it into my Prophesy and even with the gate open it was gating anyways.
ah well, I'll live with it for awhile.
It does have sweet tone.
We'll have to compare ours next time you come ;-)

Re: YJM Usa Has Landed!

With that dark neck, it resembles a Blackmore Strat more than a YingYang Strat. By he way, that bridge DiMarzio is poopoo and most people I know that have the USA or Jap model, replace it with a hotter model pickup.

Like I said earlier, it's a damn badass looking guitar. Conrats!

nice score Scott, nice b-day present to yerself
I prefer the maple board on those though..but still..nice axe!
I'm waiting for my warmoth scalloped neck to arrive myself, as I'm building a replica just to try out the scalloped neck...if I like it I might get the original some day!
About the low output...you need to get the DOD YJM 308 pedal...he uses it in front of his poweramp distorted 50watt marshalls to get his sound. Settings on the pedal are, and I quote: "everything full up, all the way"

Re: YJM Usa Has Landed!

Rune, Yea that YJM 308 pedal will do it. Or over do it! I don't use mine that much since my preamp is a Sansamp PSA-1. But yea, those pups are definitely low output. I also was going to put in a 5 way switch, but then I said nah, I'll keep this one stock. I've got plenty of Strat guitars with a 5 way to get that Clapton-like honk out of.

Very nice, Do they only come with the 3 singles? I would like to get one but I need a humbucker in the bridge.

Those are all humbuckers. The coils are stacked instead of being side by side. That config is the only way they come.

Doubt Ill be rushing out to get a pedal anytime soon LOL
I also realized my wireles battery was about dead so that really added to the lower output.
I think tomorrow Im gonna test driver her on the Dual rect set up and see what she does there ...Muuuhhaaahaha

Re: YJM Usa Has Landed!

Another interesting note on the YJM. Why did Fender/DiMarzio make the pickup covers mint green? Answer: According to my past research, the only change in color occured on the white PVC pickguards of vintage Strats. The change from white to mint was the chemical makeup of the PVC used to make the PG. I also read that the Pup covers were made from a different plastic, originally bakelite then a poly styrene which did not turn green with age. The white Pup covers usually turned a "Parchment" yellowed white as the guitar aged. I have to write DiMarzio on that question. I believe a little inaccuracy is going on here. If you look at color pics of older strats with the "Mint" pickguards you will see this. Even YJM's original "Duck" has the white pickup covers. I know this is nitpicky, but come on Fender???? I'm hoping I can order some white covers for my DiMarzios to make the sucker look right.

I am interested in how you like the YJM through a Mesa Dual Rectifier. I was not happy at all with the combination. It sounded very thin to me. Marshalls on the other hand sounded fantastic.

I havent actually plugged it in to my Mesa yet.
I did plug it into my Marshall and my rack. output is bad on the bridge PUP. And it was worse as my wireless battery was almost dead LOL.

I actually like it best with the tone knob (neck) backed all the way off.
Gives it a very meaty sound.
and the bridge I like full on.

I will have to play it thru the Rect and see how it sounds.

HaHa, another thing in common, I like the tone knob backed all the way off too. I like the Sansamp Mesa triple rectifier, Program 24, with the YJM Strat. It fattens it up a bit and gives better bottom end while still retaining the highs.
