The King V was destroyed. He also bought the Explorers in the same timeframe. He took to the Explorers and not the V. He may not have played it much, but he did bring it on tour. I have an interview somewhere around here where he states the white Flying V was an Epiphone. He also mentioned something about working in a print shop and making the logo for it. Either way, here is a shot of him from behind with that guitar. You can see the neckplate.
James may still have the King V in its broken form. I know he still has the white bolt on V which is supposedly broken (they had a picture session with it a few years ago) and he still has the first double neck that was destroyed as well.
