The thing is that since I am a grown up now, I am kind of wanting all the things I couldn't afford as a teenager. It isn't so much that I want a 7 string becuase it willopen new doors in my playing, but I want a Steve Vai guitar. period. I used to drool over those JEMS and UVS in the catalof when i was 15, and now that I have the resources to be able to save up for one, I am just trying to get an idea of what I'm getting into. THe Black UV is looking real good, or the blue JEM if I go new. I still have to spend some time looking at used ones-there are alot of different models to choose from over the years.

eristic has first dibs on my uni...charvel junkie has it right now...however if eristic doesn't want it i may just keep it for now...i have someone who will make me a stainless steel pickguard for it and may go that way...d.m.

but don't put emg 707's in it...unless you like that sound...mine has one in the bridge and i'll have to swap it out sooner or later...probably going with an evo-7 myself...d.m.

I did change the pickups. It's the guitar. The pickups helped, but the guitar sounds dead acoustically. I thought about tryin' the 7 string Floyd Rose. The problems I'm hearing may be bridge related. The Floyd may brighten it up a bit. If it don't help, at least I'll have a better bridge on there.

i just talked to a guy on the phone from a "major retailer" and he said the UV's are discontinued and their pricing them at less than a grand. However, no one has any in stock. I would be willing to pay that sight unseen! Now to go about finding one.....

If i was you i'd go for the Korn K 7, the basswood body makes those guitar sound like crap! I have an RG 7420, i changed the pickups for Di marzio blazes, and while i think the guitar plays absolutely fantastic, it could always sound better, the mahogany body will enhance it's sound, also the Schecter archtop 7 string, it comes witha tone pros bridge and duncan pickups

As far as I know the UV is still available through 2006?
I have spoken to several reps and some people at hoshino about this and there is no word on them being discontinued?

Anyways I have 2 UV's a white one from 91, and a newer one from 99. I love both, but unless you change the pickups the stock blaze II's are pretty muddy at least to my ears. the Blaze custom and air norton 7 make a good combo in the UV's.

alot of people tend to say things like that in order to encourage sales.

I work at a major music retailer in Canada, and deal with efkay,hosino,chesbro all the time.

A long time ago I was suckered into buying the black UV I have now with similar tactics, someone at another music store in toronto told me the UV would be discontinued and the numbers would be less than the UV7LNG that came out, boy what a sucker I was, anyhow, don't look at it being discontinued anytime soon, but then again these things already sell for about as much as a good RG so who the hell knows right?
