Bought a cool satriani-ish Ibanez...

Just picked up an Ibanez 540R. body is shaped like the Satriani models, but it has H/S/H pickups, blade pickup selector, and oval abalone inlays. Says "custom made" on an inlay at the 22nd fret.

Here's the weird thing... it has a MAPLE fingerboard. Guitar body is dark green metallic. I'll have pics soon.

that's odd. Ibanez has the custom made thing on alot of their fretboards, but I have never seen a maple boarded one.

Apparantly Ibanez doesn't make actual "custom shop" guitars, except for celebrities. Can't wait for pics!

That sounds like an early-90s 540R. The maple fretboard is very rare - congrats! Pics?

Haven't had a chance to give it any TLC yet (it needs a setup BAD) - but here are a few pics:



Check out the 'north hollywood' address on the neck plate, whatever the hell that means. I had a 540P (alex skolnick) with a 'bensalem, PA' address awhile back.

That is nice. My buddy has one that is a dark trans finish with maple board.

Congrats, I have the oil finish mahogany one (with maple board) (which I think is the one ManyAxes buddy has). Relatively rare, I think they only made them for the one year '92. They were around $1100 street price back in the day. Nice playing guitars!

The first 2 numbers in the serial # designates the year.

Thanks for the correction guys. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] I have it set up, and it plays pretty well... have to try it at band rehearsal and see how it does on the Satch tunes.
