Pete I believe ( I may be mistaken but I've read this in several places) that the North Hollywood address was a USA custom shop where they built the artist(Satch, Vai ) guitars and custom orders for the few lucky ones that knew the shop was there between 90 - 92. I'll try to dig up the links to the site that described what was happening there at the time. I was looking at a USA custom shop about 8 months ago and did some research on USA Ibanez built guitars. That is a relatively rare guitar and worth some serious cake to the Ibanez collectors, especially with a maple neck.
Congrats on the score.
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

wow thats cool!

I have a huge weakness for Floyds and Maple Fretboards. . .guitars with both those features are rare. (for me at least. . .none of my local stores ever have anything )

A N. Hollywood plate on a Saber, Power, USAC, or RG 7XX just means it's post-'91. The Custom Shop guitars usually have LA before the serial.

So is that a Saber or a Radius? I could never really tell the difference between the two other than the fact that Satch used Radiuses (Radii?) before having the JS Series.

I don't know if it's common or not, but that special inlay is at the 21st fret rather than the last (22nd) fret.

You seem to be picking up some pretty damn cool Ibanez guitars there Pete.

It's a Saber. Take a look at the catalog scans for the different models to see the big difference. They have almost the same profile from the front,so you have to see them from the side or bottom.

yeah, it's pretty damn slim... reminds me of a Jackson stealth. Still not sure if I dig it or not - playing this guitar is like dancing with an anorexic supermodel.

They're a gift from God for loooooong shows, especially if you have a bad back. It does sort of throw you off at first, though, 'specially if you're used to Teles and Les Pauls.

Actually, it weighs more than one would think by how thin the body is. Doesn't weigh as much as my archtop soloists did, but more than my charvel usa alder strat from '95.

That's interesting. My S only weighs about 5 pounds.

Satch's original JS1 were just like that. HSH.
