• Cheapest plausible les paul copy? ... washburn?

First of all guys, sorry if i have repeated myself, I understand computers less than guitars. I have a Charvel 475dlx, I play left handed and I am looking to purchase a Les paul style guitar on the cheap ( keep the wife smiling) I have seen a washburn which looks th part but i have not played it. I understand the idol 165 is pretty good but what are your thoughts?? any advice is warmly welcomed I am looking to recreate the slash... sustain for England vibe Jimmy Page et al Give us your feed back what is the best value out there

thanks Channa

check out e-bay and look at the japanese copies under the following brands-

ORVILLE
GRECO
BURNY
TOKAI
even the old ibanez lawsuits are awesome. ibanez could make a great guitar back in the day. probably still do , i'm just a charvel snob.
Not helping the situation since 1965!

Aria, Electra and Ventura made some decent LP copies as well. Even the bolt-necks are not bad, and those 3 brands tend to run dirt-cheap
on Ebay.

On the Washburn, you mean the WI64? I think the WI series shape is a little too far removed from the Les Paul shape, and that the other brands listed by everyone else could get you something closer in looks/feel/vibe of an LP.

Since you play Lefty, you're going to be limited in availability. Suggest doing an ebay search using "lefty" and "left hand" and see what pops up.

Carvin offers lefty guitars, maybe check out the SC90. You can order any body woods for it that you want.

Tokai's aint cheap anymore lest they're Korean, and even then...we're talking 300 for a newer used one.
Washburn had two LP copies..WP-50, WP-80 and you usually do not see them in left handed versions.

I'd check eBay under a search of 'Les Paul copy lefty' and hit the 'search item description box' as well and see what comes up. Probably a bunch of Epiphones. I do see lefty Hohner LP with a set neck every once in awhile.

ESP/LTD is another choice..
Lowest price starts around $200.

Back in the 1970s, Ibanez made a better Les Paul and Flying V than Gibson did. I do remember reading somewhere that Ibanez pulled a boner and marketed a Korina Flying V which was actually ash, but heh!

Offrampmotel posted the Kramer Standard just above. Here, I will post the Kramer Custom which happens to be on sale:

Killer price. Everything I have heard about this guitar is superior bang-for-the-buck. From what I have read, it is nearly equivalent to the ESP/LTD EC-1000 Eclipse Deluxe which is a KILLER guitar itself but runs hundreds of dollars more. Okay, so you won't get the TonePros locking TOM bridge/tailpiece or the Earvana compensated nut or the USA EMG pickups, but still, rather similar and rumored to be made in the same Korean factory side-by-side with the EC-1000. I actually was going to buy one of these Kramer Customs over the holidays and mod the crap out of it but didn't get around to doing either.

If you have any doubts, contact Greg Crowe. He is very impressed with his Kramer Custom. Almost convinced me to really go buy one, and I'm really no pushover when it comes to getting exactly the kind of guitar I want.

Dude, those Rocket Roll Sr's are some very fine playing and sounding V's. I had one back in '82...great guitar, just a little touchy tuning wise when it went from a cool breeze of winter seeping in from under the load-in backdoor to when the pars kicked in and it got hot. The necks were a thin wizard like profile. Some I heard, were made from mahogany as well.

There are some old used Ibanez's out there that are similar to an LP shape going for a reasonable price on eBay. The PF series..here's nice price on a old recording model copy.. the recording model is kinda a low demand seller, but it was good enough for Les Paul! He's in Britian too.
