Very nice!!!

Hey, what's that screw in the side of the neck for?

    [/ QUOTE ]

The screw in the side of the neck is a truss rod adjustment screw. warmoth offer sthis adjustment screw on all their nontilt back headstock necks. It allows you to make neck adjustments without taking the neck off the body.

Thanks guys for the comments on my project..I had a blast doing it and it turned out better than I had hoped. Thanks mainly to to Michaels talented wood working skills.

The guitar plays and sounds equally as good as it looks! The only small drawback is that hitting the high notes is a little difficult noyting that the finger bone on the lower horn takes up space thus the area between the neck and lower horn is a little cramped. Takes a little getting used to but other than this small issue it kicks ass.

    Cheers

Dude, amazing job. Gives me hope that one day even I could build something cool and let me tell you, aside from playing I know nothing about the guitar.

Very cool, one of the best copies I've seen. That Michael guy does a good job, I saw the one he made on the warmoth site. Did he use a warmoth body for yours? How much did he charge you for the body/carving etc...?

This is the 5th body Michael has finished to date. The one on the Warmoth site was his first..he has improved a lot, note the airbrushing (shadowing and more intricate carving on this one). He no longer uses Warmoth Strat blanks, he now simply starts with two pieces of THICK alder blocks. Traces a rough outline of the desired pattern and cuts it out. Next is the neck pocket and Floyd cuts (to ensure proper scale length and neck angle fit). After that he starts carving and the top of skull and top finger bones are added (additional wood) later). Michael is amazing and is getting better all the time. He has 5 more orders right now, no two are alike. I will add the progress pics up on my website in the near future. He sent me 7 or 8 pics at various stages of the build. Furthermore, he is a great guy to talk with and living in KY he was amazed that there was so much interest in his work. He even gives you a neck plate with his initals, the number and the date completed all stamped. You can find his signature on the back.

Price varies depending on how much detail, airbrush details etc...typical prices for just the body is $850 - 1k ish. I paied a little more because I wanted more detail. This project ran me about $1800 taking into account cost for pku, neck, tuners, Floyd, body, hardware. But I estimate you can build one for about $1500.

I am also VERY impressed with Warmoths neck..wow...the one I have plays amazing, fret work was top notch and the profile is sweet. Great company and their customer service is EXCELLENT.

If I had to do it again however, I would send Michael the EXACT neck I would use. This would avoid the need for shims in the neck pocket, he built it using a Kramer focus neck jsut to get things functional. The Warmoth neck I purchased was thinner at hence I need to place a small shim in the pocket.

I am proud but like I said I made some mistakes but it was fun. I only been working on my own guitars since Oct of last year or so. I came a long ways, have bugged Lee (GMW) to death with questions but it is so much more fun doing your own work. I still suck at wiring (complex stuff) and send them out to Lee or drop them off to a local store but I am learning. Still hate changing strings..that is the most boring job ever..lol.

I will try and scan the progress pics and update my site within the next few weeks (added some otehrs tjhough last week...check them out). Thanks again for all the comments guys, it was a REAL fun project....even selecting the style of the stickers to use on the headstock was a blast. Should have put "Fu#k Death" instead of Mr Bones..lol.

                    Cheers

That is awesome! My favorite Lynch guitar. Now you just need to scallop it from the 10th fret up and it will be just like George's.
