The screw in the side of the neck is a truss rod adjustment screw. warmoth offer sthis adjustment screw on all their nontilt back headstock necks. It allows you to make neck adjustments without taking the neck off the body.
Thanks guys for the comments on my project..I had a blast doing it and it turned out better than I had hoped. Thanks mainly to to Michaels talented wood working skills.
The guitar plays and sounds equally as good as it looks! The only small drawback is that hitting the high notes is a little difficult noyting that the finger bone on the lower horn takes up space thus the area between the neck and lower horn is a little cramped. Takes a little getting used to but other than this small issue it kicks ass.
