I bet if they could/would hire a few skilled luthiers they could earn twice as much money.

Yeah I don't know why they don't get an apprentice or two to help around. If they had someone there who just shot the solid colors on their guitars, they could probably speed up their operation quite a bit. I have been waiting over 4 months(and probably have 2 more to go) for a basic bolt on white guitar. I'm sure it will be worth it, but still, it's not a tall order.
Come and get one in the yarbles, if you have any yarbles, you yunick jelly thou!
It would be great if Lee could find some way to speed up the build process. If he could get someone to help out on the smaller stuff, I would think an apprentice could help lighten GMWs load. Hopefully the new headstock designs will be cool, I've got a few ideas that I would love to order.
6 months for a custom spec'd guitar doesn't seem too bad to me, especially when you consider his prices and how long it would take Jackson....
Ages ago someone on here (Toru?) was saying that Lee used to have a secretary or whatever but that didn't work out as most of the people calling or emailing wanted / needed to speak to Lee anyway.
I must admit, the 'unscheduled' delays can be frustrating, but it's been worth it as GMW guitars are fantastic, and I'd rather they stayed at the level they are than, for example: getting them built by apprentices and just inspected by Lee. However, I agree that getting someone to paint the solid colours shouldn't affect quality and should speed things up, but it's Lee's business and I get the feeling he likes being 'the man' from end to end....
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

That won't ever happen, and I for one am glad. Lee builds these guitars because he absolutly loves to build em. Not to make money, and shit can you ever tell.
I have only ever bought three new guitars in 8 years of playing, one when I first started playing, and two GMW's. Lee is man in every aspect of the word.
I totally agree with you on this one.
I asked the same thing several times when I was at his shop and he told me he just loves to do it by himself so he knows what he is doing instead of telling others what to do.
I can understand that, when you get other people to do your job then quality may suffer. I know that GMW guitars are worth the wait, I just hate waiting. Hell, I hate waiting to see the new headstocks, I want to see them right now!
I love GMW though, Lee definately produces a great product.
I think that building capacity is only a small part of it. I know that Lee has has hardware supply issues recently and Jackson/Fender have been monopolizing Dan L. with NAMM and the limited run stuff. What would really speed things up is a Dan clone of some kind.

That's what I'm saying. If they could get someone to just shoot solid colors, or the most basic graphics(i.e bullseyes, 2 color straight line stuff). It would probably speed up their operation some. If I'm getting a solid color or something simple that you see on alot of other pieces, I could care less who paints it, as long as it's painted properly.

I'm pretty sure Lee knocks those out himself, solid colors that is. Where they always get hung up is the necks, at least according to Lee.

I know that when I sent a guitar for a metallic finish, Lee said Dan was going to be the one to paint it. He (Lee) was just going to do the prep, buff, and reassembly. Not sure if it was just in this particular instance since it was a color match, but he did say that the length of time depended on when Dan could paint it.

Interesting, when I was talking to Lee about having my GMW painted a solid base color, he specifically said that he himself could do it pretty quick.
Interesting, I know that Lee claimed that Dan did may simple Skull (Ratt skull w/out blood) and that Dan is doing my German Camo guitar - I took him at his word as I have do reason to doubt it.
