  • Carvin 7 strings

Anyone out there have one? I'm just curious about the neck. How thick/thin is it? I have a Universe and I'm wanting another 7, but I keep thinkin' about the Carvin and have no idea about the neck. I like the neck on the Ibanez, but I don't like the sound of it. (and yes I changed the pickups) Any input would be great!

Outstanding bro. Think of it like a wider version of the Jackson Soloist. Not as thick as an Ibanez but pretty close. If you are asking because of Paddock's listing you should jump on it. I had the exact same guitars with EMG's and it killed in a huge way. What a quality axe.

I din't know about the Paddock listing, but I'll look into it. And the neck is thinner the the Ibanez? That's even better. I like a thin neck. It's easier to shred on a thin neck.

I mistyped bro. The Carvin neck is a little thicker than an Ibanez. It is in between an Ibanez and a Schecter. Very comfortable but not thinner than an Ibanez. The thinnest 7 string guitar neck I ever had was am Kramer. That sucker was almost wizard thin.

I played a Carvin recently and really liked it. I also have a UV but the Carvin sounded better played as well as the UV and just felt better to me. I also really prefer the neck thru over the bolt on. BTW Any difference in the thickness of the neck is negligible at best. I wish I'd known that before cause I was led to beleive Carvins had these huge necks so I bought the Ibanez which BTW I really do like alot I just liked the Carvin better.

I've played a couple Carvins (not 7 string) and they were great. High quality instuments. I'm supprised more people aren't using them. It doesn't help there are no dealers, but it does keep the prices down. I may just get some cash together and order one. I'm sure it sounds better than my Universe anyway. Thanks for all the input.

I've never played one, but I'm likely to buy one of those music123 Washburns and if I like the 7 strings as much as I think I will (only played a used BC Rich 7 at GC one time) I'm going to order a DC727 right away. Ideally I would get an SL2H 7-string but I fear the Jackson custom shop will be too expensive and take too long for my tastes. I guess this doesn't add much to the thread though, oh well!

The 7 string thing is pretty cool. I keep mine tuned to pitch, but the low B is real heavy. By far the Ibanez 7's have the thinnest necks of all the 7's I've played. I can play faster and cleaner on a thin neck. My Universe is fun to play. Although I'm tired of the sound of it, I'd still buy another one. It's still a great guitar. I just wish it sounded better.
