Re: New Vai signature \"bad horsie jem\"

i dunno dude, i was just comparing the specs on this one, to that of the JEM7BDK, because the specs are similar, and i Thought the JEM7BDK was cheaper, but perhaps i'm wrong. i just made speculation dude, its not written in the fuckin' stone. if its more expensive, than cool for the people who'll pay for it. if its cheaper, than some people will be happy, and some will buy it and install the sustainer.
i didn't know where to find the list retail for the new one, i fuckin' apologize. **** hell, i'm out.

I know what you mean. I didn't know the list price for the bad horsie either and looking at the specs I though it would be around 1500$.. guess i was wrong too.. ridiculous, so much money for that guitar..

I'm not the one in a huffy, chill out. In my first post I said what the list is on the new one.
Now back to the larger problem. A lot of people on Jemsite (including myself) were thinking the same as you - the 7BDK was the lower-priced, less "fancy" Jem and it was being discontinued. So we were thinking this would be the lower-cost Jem to replace it. But good old Ibanhad made it MORE expensive than the 7VWH! So unless they pull a surprise out of their asses at NAMM with a cheaper Jem, your Jem choices are a $2660 white Jem or a $3100 "bad horsie" Jem (list prices). Outrageous!!

I can't say that I'm happy about the price. However, the JEMs are part of the high-end of Ibanez guitars. High-end Jackson list for the same kind of money.

Go to Musician's Friend right now. The current JEM 7VWH lists for 2399.99 and sells for 1794.99. The cheapest high-end Jackson is 2449.99 list and sells for 1837.49.

You can debate import vs. USA made and neck throuh vs. bolt-on if you want.

I also realize that you can get Jackson's cheaper from our forum dealers. You can also get Ibanez's cheaper as well if you hook up with a good dealer. Before I bought my JEM from a friend, a dealer I dealt with regularly back in WA was going to sell me a 7VWH for $1450 brand new with case.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

It is a cool guitar but it sucks because......... the list is $3099!!! With dot inlays and no sustainer!

I like it, shame about the blue led's, they'd rock, especially on ebony. I don't think they should have rosewood, also they should put the sustainer in. Jems have always been over-priced, this is no different, but I think they're pretty good instruments none the less.

If they put the LEDs in you guys would have a seizure when you saw the price increase. You are talking about another $820 or so minimum just for the side and face led dots not to mention the custom headstock laser which costs $178.

For what they're asking, it should have the LEDs! The way it is, I think it should be between the DBK and VWH in price. JMO

Exactly, that is just your opinion. They can ask what they want. It is a new model after all and the new models almost always cost more. the VWH has been out for a long time already. I personnally feel that they are overpriced as well, but then again I would say the same about most high end guitars, Jackson included.

Is part of the price increase over the 7W due to the mirror finish process? I wonder if this is similar to the chrome finish in the JS series. Or is the mirror finish a metallic paint?

Apart from the JEM neck, it's an RG with a funky finish and a gratuitous handle, ferchrissakes! For at least $1,500 retail. Buy a Prestige RG, put in some good pickups, and you've got pretty much the same damn thing for half the price.

Jems are nice looking and playing guitars but I'm not paying that money for a bolt on.

Now that I have a 7VWH with Ibanez' AANJ, though, I can't see any advantage to my Soloists' heel-less neck joints in terms of access, and the satin finish on the Ibanez' neck is a treat. Soundwise, I can't say either construction type is better.
