  • GMW 5150 Candy Stripe

Lee just confirmed this as one of GMW's earliest 5150 replica's painted by Dan Lawrence, built circa 1998. Neck shape has a very EMBB/Wolfgang like profile with one piece unfinished maple and a killer fret job. As soon as I plugged it in, it more than lived up to GMW's reputation for building great guitars. I don't know what the pickup is yet, but it really fits this guitar. Body is Swamp ash. Never thought I'd buy a RWB version, as I was always partial to the B & Y VH II's, but pics don't do these RWB 5150's justice. In person, it looks spectacular.

really....Lee (GMW's) first ones did not have space tape. Does yours have space tape 5150 lettering...here is mine..very early GMW

Trace, yours is pretty damn cool! Yeah, mine has Space tape numbers & stars. Lee didn't say it was "the first" or anything, quote: "that guitar is one of the very early ones since we stopped using that brand of potentiometer many years ago." and "I did notice that the black outline around the numbers had "bled", but given how long ago Dan did that one, maybe he used a different pen to outline around the numbers. Once the urethane hit the black, it spread. Sounds like he used a different pen. Now days, the black outline is crisp and clean". I'm glad I grabbed it...they're cool guitars for sure.

Here's mine, and according to Lee, the pup is an SH-14 Custom 5 (sd). Very cool guitar, almost plays itself. Was my first GMW, been on the hunt ever since.

[/ QUOTE ] Lee said the neckplate must have been kept by a previous owner. Here's what's on it now.
