HM's are cool, but they dont feel much like a strat, IMO. They dont even look like strats, apart from the headstock. No pickguard, generic super strat shaped body, floyd. If you want something that feels like a strat, I would just get a regular "maiden-y" strat with a floyd and humbuckers, 22 fret necks arent THAT limiting.

[/ QUOTE ]That depends entirely on the specific music you like to write and play. If 22 frets is fine for you, fine FOR YOU, but don't dismiss the guy's want for 24 frets if he says that's what he wants. That's like saying if you want a Strathead you should be okay with a pointy headstock because "what's the diff on the fretbord?".Granted what he wants is not that available, but since I'd like that myself, I can relate. If I got a HM STrat though, I can live with no pickguard, but I'd sand down the headstock and put a real Stratocaster logo instead of that black headstock with "Strat" in big ugly letters that it comes with. That kind of ruins that guitar for me aesthetically, though it wouldn't stop me from getting one at a good price.

Whoa whoa whoa, Slow down man!

Im not telling anyone what they should or should not get, or what they want and do not want.

Im just saying that they dont make strats with 24 frets without some sort of modification to the body shape, and the pickguard gone, and a different neck design and feel, then IMO you dont really have a "Stratocaster" anymore, you have a Dinky, or a HM strat, and (I think) he is looking for a REAL stratocaster like guitar (and not a super-strat)the only real option is to have 22 frets.

Im not sure if he means he likes the feel of the whole guitar, or just the Fender neck.

yes, not only are there the HM Strats from the late 80's/early 90's, but newer Stagemaster and Showmaster Strats are also 24 fret, but they are neck-through, but still very nice players as well, and I believe both of the ones i have seen recently (like last week) have H-H pickup configurations...but as far a s an American Standard Strat? Nope, you have to get an aftermarket 24-fret overhang neck that fits into the 22 fret pocket, and like someone else said here, you either change the pickrard out for a redesigned one, or just lose the neck pickup altogether...

The Hm strats have realy nice necks.and i think there straty enough for the fender fans. They were made to compete with the metal market leaders Jackson at that time frame-and have fn SWEET headstocks!!Everyone i know who has one raves on about how great they play-there good players like high end jacksons

Actually some of them have really nice necks. Some of them blow, and I've seen quite a few that had questionable build quality. Of course that is true of any guitar............

I had an HM Strat years ago that was a real smokin' guitar. As nice a neck as any SD Charvel I've ever played. Now, why in the hell did I get rid of it??

I have also experienced other HMs that were real dogs, however. By the way, the Squire Stagemaster/Showmaster look exactly like the HM Strat to me, with maybe just slightly rounder, "strat-ier" edges. They certainly don't play the same, however.
