• Anyone Know Anything About Conklin Guitars

They look pretty awesome and I am sure they are high quality instruments so I don't question that. I know Rusty Cooley plays a couple.
But I am wondering how their tone compares to Jackson for example. They seem to use fairly exotic woods.
I am also wondering how their sustain and articulation are.

you can check out some of his Vids, on his site, in the media section...you'll find all the articulation you want, but no sustain, because he literally sweeps (sweep picks, and pun Intended!) through the entire thing.

Obviously, the tone is going to depend on the wood type. In general, though, I get the impression they are a fairly 'bright' guitar. The only one I've had a chance to play was the Korean production GT-7 guitar. That one had a suckass tone, but that's not surprising, considering the body is made of cherry. Nice neck, though.

My bassist has a Conklin 7 string bass (the Korean one) with Bartolini actives in it. Very nicely made ... if their guitars are even close in quality, I'd suggets one. YOu see them pop up on the 'Bay once in a while...

I think they seem pretty high quality. I'm not sure if I need THIS one though...

But it looks like a fun guitar! I like the way the pickups on the low strings have poles picking up nothing.

I've really been thinking about getting one of the Groove Tools 7-strings. Bill Conklin sent me an email one time telling me that they're made in Korea to his specs, and also the threaded bar on the traditional trem models can be retrofitted with the collar-type Floyd bar. They look pretty neat with their arched tops. I kinda miss my old Ibanez RG7620, so now I've got a 7-string jones again and am thinking of either a Conlkin or a Carvin.

They better be good, the new 9'string Rusty Cooley's guitar value is 15,300$

The Conklin is awesome. I don't think you'd be disappointed with that one. I have the black hardtail model, though, so I have no experience with the trem.

I really like the look of conklin guitars. The melted top look is awesome too, very tasty. I really want an 8 string from them, i think a 9 string would be too much though, i wouldn't have any use for the low F#. They use EMG bass pickups for 8 strings craaazy huh

Does anyone have any of the old Conklin custom guitars? The ones that were always advertised in the guitar magazines back in the '80s!

Wasn't it Conklin who did the 57 Chevy guitar? The body of the guitar was shaped like the tail fin of a 57 Chevy. If I remember the were made out of aluminum.

You mean like the electrik?

I always wanted one of those myself. Cool looking guitar. Not sure how comfortable it is to play though.

Yep, that's them! They also did a weird boomerang -shaped one that I thought was kinda funky. It always seemed to be the same guy in the ad, with his "Custom Candy Cane" guitar.

You mean the dude in this picture with the boomerang? He's the founder and owner.

Cool. If I go with one, I'd most likely get the hardtail version anyway. How are the pickups?
