Re: Anyone Know Anything About Conklin Guitars

I priced one out with a melt top (an additional $1200), melted neck (an additional $600) which is really cool, floyd rose (an additional $350). Approx. $6000 for a 6 sting!

They said they could get the price down somewhat if there was "wood continuitey" probably between the body and neck or something.

Extremely good looking guitars and I am sure the quality is as good as a guitar can possibly be.

But I don't know that there is a difference in SOUND to warrant that kind of price - but what awesome looking guitars.

I actually spoke with their factory down in MO. I may have to fly down there some day and try one out. I would love to have one but that is an awful lot of money.

I heard the Rusty Cooley video and the guitar sounds dry - but that is probably the VHT he uses along with the EMG pick ups.

But I am in love with the looks of these guitars and the necks are suppose to be killer. They said the 7 strings feel like 6 string necks.

The 7-string necks on the Korean guitars are VERY comfortable--they don't have that 'tree trunk' feeling at all. If only that neck was attached to something other than a piece of cherrywood...

omg.. I LOVE that boomerang guitar! I've been searching for a shape like that for ages!!!

the only one I found was this:

and I don't even know what it is..
edit: now that I see this pic again.. the headstock starts with a C.. could it be a Conklin too?

        sorry for the offtopic..

Its hard to find any kind of reviews on these things because they are so damn expensive I can't find anyone that onwns one.

I emailed Rusty to get his opinion on how they compare to Jackson in tone, articulation etc...

All he said was that the Conklins were hand made and he could not compare the two.

I have heard great things about them, but never played one. Conklin has been around for a long time...that says something right there. You can't have longevity producing expensive, high end instruments if they aren't top notch. They specialize in basses these days, although they still do guitars.

I can't find any forums or very many comments anywhere on the net about them. I would say they are probably the nicest looking guitars I have ever seen - especially those melted tops!

But I am thinking about how much they cost and I just don't see that there would a difference in sound to justify $6000 for a guitar. But I would love to have one.

I would imagine that there is considerable work involved in "melting" those tops.
