Re: Whats with the price increase on Ibanez RG 7 s

The RG1527 is a really nice 7 string. The stock Ibanez V7 & V8 pickups leave a little to be desired so I threw a Custom/Jazz set in there.

It basically is an updated RG7620 with the new Edge bridge and different pickups. The neck feels really nice and smooth and the fit and finish is ver good for a guitar of this price range.

My bad - mine is a 7621 (fixed bridge - damn typo!) I do have a white pearl pickguard on it, as well as a custom trussrod cover (ebony w/ Abalone) .... pics l8r today

My advice, try to find a 2004 1527 still in stock from last year, which still should be around $600. (Give Jason a ring at DCGL) And, word is that all Ibanez production is moving to Korea in 2006. They already have a few Prestige models being made in Korea for 2005.

If you mean on eBay, things just seem to go up and down periodically. Used Carvin guitars have been selling for comparatively high prices there recently. I think that the relative lack of new 7-strings out there has driven the prices on used ones up quite a bit in the last couple of years--not just on Ibanezes. The old out-of-production neckthru ESP LTD 7-strings (H-307, M-307) now sell for at least what they cost new, if not even more.

As far as Ibanez goes, the recent price increases on the new instruments could be a factor driving eBay prices, but the 7620s are pretty highly sought after, since the new EdgePro trem on the 1527 has gotten a bit of a bad reputation, whether deserved or not. Plus, the 7620 had real DiMarzio pickups. However, prices on used Universes seem to have gone down a bit in the last couple of months. The current UV777 model was routinely going for $1000 on eBay last year, and they seem to be selling for about $800 right now.

              Why did they increase prices?

Because they want to make more money and they think the market can bear it. Simple.

Wow, that would be a MAJOR change. It would certainly help Korea in its coming of age and gaining respect as a country of origin for guitar building (a process which is already underway).

Yep, Korea is very quickly catching up on their quality. The Ibanez guitars are made, at least some of the models, at the World factory, which is Cort I think. And, all of the prestige basses are currently being made in Korea.

I had an RG7620. Nice guitar, but I really didn't care for the tone of the basswood body.
