Re: NAMM Carvin finally!

I knew going there I wanted to check one out and when I did I knew I had to have one. Mine came out to 1400 and that was shipped with a case and tax (cause I live in CA) all included. Try getting a new PRS for that.

So yours is a CT6 model? What options did you got with the guitar? It is a beautiful guitar. Guitars!

It's stock except for the gold hardware and the birdseye fingerboard. The flame maple is stock on the CT6M I think its called. Theres an upcharge for the quilts. I just prefer the flametop and Green is what I wanted even before I saw em.

I understand that the neck wood is mahogany. How does it sound? Is the guitar very heavy due to the mahogany body/neck wood? What kind of finish does the neck have? I apologize for asking so many questions, but I'm seriously thinking about getting one.

It doesn't feel heany at all, nothing like an LP.The neck is finished with a gloss just like the body but they also had some with an oil finish there as well. And it sounds incredible. I just plugged it in and was floored by the sound. usually I have to tweek my amp a bit from guitar to guitar but there was no need. the pickups are great and I totally dig mahogany. I have a Rhoads, a Y2KV and my LP are all mahogany. It's definitely my favorite wood.

I need to figure out if I should go for the CT4 or the CT6 model. I will probably go with the same options you did, but on a different color. How long did it take them to build the guitar?

                Re: NAMM Carvin finally!

I bought it at NAMM so I didnthave to wait (except for shipping) cause it was already built. If you order one now though I think it takes 4 weeks according to them. If you call em they may have some of the NAMM guitars left. When I bought mine there were alot of em unspoken for. So they probably still have some. They also have some deals on the options right now.

Those are awsome. I love Carvin. Built well, sound great and small enough company that you don't have to wait forever to get a custom shop piece done. Those new guitars look great too. Love that blue/green floyded one.

[/ QUOTE ]Yeah, that's something new they came up with (I think someone on their board photoshopped one like that first). Basically, whatever color you want on a Carvin, if they can mix it with whatever existing paint they have in their shop, you can get it. Someone got a Gretsch Orange on a Holdsworth a year or so ago, and an Admin/Employee of the Carvin board mentioned you could get metallic colors by putting their Pearl Silver on and a trans color over it. Board members have also been wanting a carved top for a long time... Carvin finally came through! They're awesome about getting different features such as choice of maple, ebony, rosewood fingerboard, different hardware colors, choice of bridges, different pickup cofigurations, no tone control, etc.

Would it be possible to get a picture of the back of the neck of the guitar? How thick is the neck?

I dig Carvin stuff (have an A/E), but usually think their body styles are a little off of my tastes. I must admit, though, I've really been digging those carved tops. Unlike their other bodies, IMHO it's actually an improvement over the original (PRS). One of these days, I'm going to have to buy one of these and/or a GMP Pawn Shop.

I loved the carved tops ..it was funny too because the only reason we ended up checking them out was because my wife loves Quilted tops

Too much quilt action going on there.
