• Dean USA's - Why no Floyd's ?

I have been eye ballin Dean USA's (specifically the ML's) but why is it that they don't have any models in their USA line that has a Floyd Rose?

If I want a Floyded Dean I have to get a Korean Import 79 ML F (heard good things about them) but I like the block inlays and fully bound necks and headstocks. These time capsules are awesome!

I read somewhere (in here, i think) that there US facilities are not setup do produce guitars with Floyds-That is why DIme was using the Korean imports on tour. I guess setting up for mass production of FLoyded guitars requires quite a bit of equipment or money that Dean isn't willing to spend, or is taking longer than fans would like.

Yuo would think that a company of Deans stature and pushing some of their guitars, like the ML, that they would be able to do a Floyd. I bet they would do one custom for you, but I agree, they nead an ML model with a Floyd. Jack.

I've been bugging Dean Zelinksy and Elliot Rubinson(Dean owner) for years trying to get them to make me a USA ML with a Floyd. Problem is, Dean doesn't really own a USA Custom Shop. They contract out their USA production to another company who does awesome work but it's very heavily based on CNC programs which doesn't allow any room for customization.

B.S .. It's not hard to change a program ... there's no fixture changes required just addtional cad/cad work ... whith wont add a lot of time to the process ..

[/ QUOTE ]So who actually makes the USA Deans then? And I assume they contract for the Korean made ones as well, so Dean is completely a subout company with no factory then? Interesting...

I read an interview a long time ago with DZ in a guitar mag that he just doesn't like tremolos and would rather not even put a Floyd Rose at all, and that he though Dime ruined his early guitars by doing so, DZ really resented Dime in Pantera's early years for doing that to his guitars...this was shrtly after VDOP was released...So I think it's simply because DZ just has an aversion to Locking trem systems...

I wonder if they Use US Masters guitars as thei rsub company, or it is BC rich who uses them. US Masters makes great guitars under their own name also. Jack.

I would think that too. Heck, they could get that from the Korean buddies

and Yes Dime played the Korean ML's. They are sweet looking guitars and heard they were fairly good quality too but I haven't played one to confirm. I suppose if Dime played them they can't be crap

What would you have to do to mod a set-neck for a Floyd? I'd be afraid to do that but I have seen a couple of Dimes that had the V tailpice left on but it had a Floyd.

When Dean originally left the business to make furniture, he said that he got sick of guitar making because the industry had turned into a competition of who could attach the cheapest guitar to a Floyd Rose. That was back when one pup , basic guitars were all the rage. He lost interest completely. I would imagine the Korean instruments also have a pretty decent profit margin and are high quality so he probably isn't in a rush to add them to the USA line.

                        Re: Dean USA\'s - Why no Floyd\'s ?

I wanted either an ML or V with a floyd, but the 79 MLF is a really good guitar too. I think honestly I'm gonna spend the xtra $ and buy the Dime o Flame. Same thing was a kickass finish. Their customs are a tad on the expensive side as it is (the exotic ML), so going the custom route and having one with a floyd probably won't have an insane upcharge. I honestly want both, a floyded and non floyded version. Here's the pic for those who haven't seen it. Very beautiful.

I have wanted and have cried for quite some time to get a Z with a floyd. I had a chance to get one when Ben Chafin was still running the custom shop and blew it. I still regret that.

BS yourself Kevin. Dean doesn't own the company(yes, it's US Masters) and has spent months setting everything up to spit out what they currently make. You ask Dean for a Floyd Rose, they say they can't do it given their current operation....... BS or not.
