• GMW-Headstock question.

I know that this has been covered before, but I don't have the time to search right now. Can GMW still use the Strat headstock on custom orders? I was reading a review on harmonycentral.com and the guy said they can't use the Fender headstock anymore. If they can't use the Fender HS can they use the pointy Jackson HS? I was planning on getting a re-pro of Warren Di Martini's Skull and Blood graphic Charvel Strathead.

Okay.............I feel like a dumbass. Right after I posted this I scrolled down and read the answer to my question. Geesh! See what graveyard shift does to a man! I wonder if I bought a Warmouth neck that had a Strat head on it Lee could assemble the rest of the guitar for me? Would that be legal for him to do? Could he use the pointy Jackson HS shape?

And the answer to that question is also NO. Lee is only building complete guitars now. He won't build a body around a neck and vice versa. Sad but true.

But you could always order/buy a complete guitar & change the neck to a strathead replacement!!

              Re: GMW-Headstock question.

A while back, just after the "no strat-head deal", I ordered a Star from GMW. Lee did the body, the paint, OFR studs and everything. He even mated it to a GMW neck to make sure everything lined up. I ordered the exact neck I wanted from Warmoth. When I got the Star body, I just bolted on the neck and fit my OFR to the body and strung it up.

Of course it doesn't have a GMW set up, but I've become pretty good at doing set-ups myself.

I was at GMW a few weeks back and got to see the neck for the #2 GMW with serial#. Of course it was just a block of flame maple, but I was told this would eventually be the neck for #2

I think I'll just go all Warmouth and get a reputable luthier from around here to finish it up for me. I will be asking for some detailed specs around here when it comes time. Lee will do a re-fin on an existing guitar still...right?

For what it is worth, this is not a bad option if your local guy is good. I did this before I found GMW and I am happy with the result. Only advise would be to stay away from a factory second neck. I bought one and while a good deal, I had some other issues with the neck which required more work to get right.

I'm thinking about getting the Warren Di Martini Skulls and Blood, but in reverse on my DK2LE. Kinda like what that one board member did with his GMW a few years back.
