  • anyone own a AGILE les paul ?

I keep hearing these things are the best bang for the buck?
I need a mahogany/maple les paul type guitar with a set neck(maple or mahogany) for under $600
but most important i want the trademark les paul tone(barking, fat, sustaining)
i will replace the pups with duncans on whatever i get
If it's not a CHARVEL then i dont want to play it,look at it or even fuckin THINK about it!

I would only go for the ones with the real horn, otherwise it looks like a deformed LP :P

I've got a 2002 LP4000 Sparkle Top, solid Mahogany body, Maple neck and Rosewood fingerboard. I paid like $250 for it. They've change some of the specs since then, mostly for the better.

They rounded the cutaway a little bit in 2003. It's really not that bad, IMO. The highest priced one they have is $599 and comes with Duncans (Jazz neck/59 bridge) already in it. The only real difference might be the Ebony fingerboard, which will brighten the sound a little bit. Like a Custom.

I have two (a 2500 and a 3000), they are indeed as good as what people on forums (esp. Harmony Central) say they are. If I have the cash, I would be picking up one of the wine red quilted ones.

I keep entertaining getting one of these also.

Deformed LP. How so? I thought they looked pretty dead on aside from the headstock......

How are the neck profiles for those of you that own them? Comparable to a 50's or 60's LP?

[/ QUOTE ] Ron, he means the cut away is now a little different so it doesn't exactly mimic a Gibby LP cut away any more.

Yeah, they shortened the horn a little, but if the sound is more important to you, does it matter? The AL3500s have a 3/4" solid maple cap. That's a decent chunk of maple! I would definitely try one for the money.

those that want the EXACT shape will have to look elsewhere... but on the whole, it's quite a small modification, and I personally prefer the Agile soft horn. I think it fits it with the overall shape much better than the Gibson horn.

Re: anyone own a AGILE les paul ?

I actually prefer the Agile neck profile over my LP Standard's profile. I haven't played enough real LPs to know the differences between the different profiles they've used, but my Standard's neck feels kinda blocky, whereas the Agile is more comfy.
Only problem I've had with the Agile so far (2500 GoldTop) is the fretwork - I've got one or two frets that need some sort of attention (filing, replacing, whatever).

They even say the 2500 has machine filed frets. 2800 and higher are hand filed.

what is the advantage of a chambered LP like this?
                        http://www.rondomusic.net/al2900.html

I see it cuts the weight down a little, but what about the tone?

Resonance. Gibson LPs are chambered as well.

The only Les Pauls I can think of that are chambered are the Double Cut Les Pauls...the rest in the current production line are solid.

To me, the Agile looks more like a Guild in those photos than a Gibson.

The Frampton model LP was chambered. They also had a hollow Custom with f-holes on it a couple years ago.
