I don't recall seeing anyone saying Tokai is crap - I just want to understad why that Tokai is better than the equivilant Epi offering.

[/ QUOTE ]

I guess because Gibson watches over EPI on a certain quality they want, and Tokai may beable to offer better?

Aren't Tokai's made in Japan? I know I've never played a bad one,

I've never played a good one!

Seriously, I've only played a few Tokais but I can't say any of them did anything for me. Though, I have never played an Epiphone, nor would I ever want to.

I have to admit I'm not much of an Epiphone fan but I try them out and every so often I like one (the FlameKat is cool for instance).
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

Well, I guess you should never say "never," but I have never felt the need to try one out nor could I ever see myself saying, "Gee, that's a nice Epiphone, I think I'll try/buy it."

Siiiiiigh.... the stigma of owning an Epi rears its ugly head. I guess as long as I own my Epi I'll always be considered a second-class citizen.

Re: Nice Zakk Bullseye/Tokai

I think Gibson has it in their best interest to make sure the LP's stand out from the Epis considering they are a trillion dollars more. Tokai doesn't have anything to loose by shooting for the best copy possible. They have still cut corners but they really did a great job of the fit and finish.

Going by the cheap guitars I have owned and tried everything from my kids Jay Terser to my Custom Shop Jackson and my Tokai is closer to the Custom shop than anything as far as the playability and finish. I have been reading allot about the Agile LP's and although I have never tried the LP I owned the Ghost/Explorer (Sold it to Steve, who will not like this comment) and I wouldn't even put it close to the same league as my Tokai. It wasn't bad and it was definitely worth the money but in no way does it compare to the Tokai and the old MIJ are even better than my MIK. Steve has changed the pups and pots but, the fret board and frets themselves are no where near.

Almost every guitar shop up here has a dozen Epis, so I have played allot and the one thing I find is dry, porous looking rosewood, shoddy frets that are dull and rough and the post feel like you can twist them off without really tiring. Again the two ZW Epi's I have tried were both better than any other Epi...I wonder why?

Re: Nice Zakk Bullseye/Tokai

Tokais are made in Korea and Japan these days. ALS models are made in Korea and LS models in Japan. Korean models do not have "correct" les paul materials. Mahogany body with maple top is only available on Japanese guitars.
Tokairegistry is worth checking out.

Here is a quote from the forum I found through your link...

"Well seeing as I'm the one selling it I'll comment for ya... This model along with any other current Korean made model, you will not find in any past or current catalog. The Canadian distributor pretty much custom tailors all his orders and doens't follow any catalog specs. All specs listed on my site are true and accurate. You wil never see a New Korean made Love Rock made with cheaper woods as listed in the old catalogs, at least not in Canada. They are all made with real mahogany bodies with real maple tops, if its a flame top it will have a real wood maple veneer on top of the maple cap. All have set necks made of real rock hard Canadian maple.

I think anyone that has bought a recently made Korean made Love Rock would agree that they are a well made guitar, have a real solid feel and are very high quality for the price range."
This descibes mine as well. Basically the ZW specs.

Re: Nice Zakk Bullseye/Tokai

There is definitely some distinction between ones made in Korea and ones made in Japan. The Japanese guitars just have better material, better electronics and hardware (USA-made vs import in some models), better craftsmanship, and better QA. Unfortunately in Epi's case, it usually will cost you double the amount.

Hey that's great to be able to get Korean Tokai with mahogany body. In Finland ALS-48 specs are: alder body with flamed sycamore top. Build quality and finish is very good on both Korean and Japanese models.
