Possibly to help balance out the tone from that solid flamed maple body. Appearance-wise, yeah I'd probably prefer maple. That'd work well if it were only a maple top. But ultimately, I know I'd prefer rosewood with that body.

Interesting. Lee built me a eastern hard rock (heavy!) maple body with a maple board a few years ago. Guitar looks awasome (to me anyway -see avatar!) and sounds even better to me (which is what counts).
I understand what you are saying, but do not think that many people agree with you when push comes to shove - thus, I still have my rosewood SD pointy (which I had to buy with another guitar as a package because the buyer wanted to move both and now I know why [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]).
