• Got me another 7 string comming...

I finaly found a 7 string I could live with. I checked out an Ibanez RG7321 a while back and kinda fell in love with it. I was leaning towards a Jackson DR7 and had a killer deal on it until I found out why it was going for so cheap. It fell off the wall rack. I cancelled that. Anyway, called Matt's music and got a killer deal on a new Ibanez RG7321. I had a Schecter C-7 last year, but trems with 7 strings just don't do it for me. I need the tuning stability more than a whammy bar. If anybody here owns an RG7321 post some comments for me. From what I experienced it's a pretty good guitar out of the box. If anyone here has one and has upgraded theirs in any way post it. I also need some suggestions for pickups. Anything will help.

Thanks guys

Hey Jon you will not be disapointed, the neck on these a smooth to play on as 7 strings go I put a pair of Blaze customs in mine. I'm an Emg guy but the blaze alowwed me alot more metal tone changes plus the weird Steve Vai phase I went thru. enjoy.

I have one 7 string w/a Blaze Custom, one with a JB7, and one with a Distortion 7. I like the JB7 the best. The Blaze Custom isn't bad, but with that Ibanez you probably want a "warmer" bottom end (aren't those basswood?) and a little more midrange "scoop".

All depending upon the tone you're looking for, of course.
Division - American Metal that doesn't suck. Much. Even on Facebook.

I loved the Blaze Custom in my old 7620--thought it was a lot better than the regular Blaze. But then, I was going for more of a pure lead tone, and the Custom is definitely voiced toward the higher end. Not so much as the JB, however. Any of those pickups would be preferable to the standard Ibanez ones, however.

I think I'm going to leave it stock for a while to see if I can achieve the tone I'm looking for. I found out they are using the V7 and V8 pickups. I may be wrong, but the Ibanez website shows most of the Korean made Ibanez's have the upgraded Ibanez pickups instead of the Powersound pickups.

The sound I'm looking for is a balanced, bottom heavy tone that allows for every string to be heard. In other words.....no mud. I also want to be able to tear it up with some lead work and have the harmonics available when I need them. I'm kind of torn between a Duncan JB and a DiMarzio Evo 7. From what I remember the stock Duncan Design bucker I had in my Schecter was an HB102B which is a 90% copy of an actual Seymour Duncan JB. It sounded great and did what I described above. I would like to know what having that other 10% would sound like. I realy liked the DiMarzio Evolution I had in a Fender Strat I used to have. If it sounds as good in a 7 as it did in my 6 I would be sold. I'm gonna stay away from the EMG stuff. I love the EMG81 I have in my DK2LE, but thats the only axe I'm going to have one of those in due to the battery and all. I love passive pickups alot. I like gritty and raw sounds.

Thanks for the pickup advice though. If I can't get it right out of the 2 I am looking at I may end up with a Duncan Distortion 7. Who knows.
