Re: Dean Schenker, anyone...

FACT: There are several people that have the "signed" MSVs. In fact, I just had another dealer contact me saying he had one ready to ship if I was interested. I'm not.

those binding lines don't look like they're painted, it just looks like a bad masking job around an already semi-difficult area to mask. is that white paint on the binding, or scratches? too bad, it coulda been scraped clean, and it would've been fine.

Did I miss the review? How's the new arrival and are you 100% happy?

Re: Dean Schenker, anyone...

I got one couple weeks ago.
I am ready to post my review anytime but I just don't like posting it without pics of the actual guitar and my digital camera is broken.

Or I guess I should just post my review with a picture from Dean website..

Unless there are issues, most of us know what it looks like. So get busy typing.

No shit. Step on it Toru. Mine is still "awaiting delivery", which I believe is code for "jim's gonna be cancelling his order tomorrow."

The dealer emailed me last week and told me that he had received another MSV, #54 and wanted to know if I still wanted one. I politely responded with "no thanks, the novelty has worn off."

Re: Dean Schenker, anyone...

I may grab one of the imports and change out the pickups, but the novelty has worn off for me as well.

It's a shame this turned out to be such a mess. Dean guitars are a dream to play and Schenker is one my all time favorites. It looked like a no lose situation, until I threw a grand on the table.

I hope Toru is digging his and will be kind enough to give us his opinion of the guitar.

OK, I will try to make it short so I don't make people bored especially without pics, I know it sucks.

The guitar, It is my first Dean guitar and what I can say is it plays nice and amazing how light it is.
It has Mahogany body/neck and I'd say it is the lightest guitar ever.
The body, from the pictures you see on Dean's website, they look to have thicker body but they don't.
I was expecting a bit thicker body instead.
Even the guitar to be heavier.
I get used to play heavier guitars...
The bindings on mine look great.
Not like #2 you posted.
Mine is #39.
The guitar comes with a certificate and nice hardshell case(Black and White colors).

Ebony fingerboard looks and feels nice and frets are installed very well just like Jackson guitars.
The guitar sounds great too.
The sound you expect from Mahogany body/neck.
Very Warm.
The neck shape is Soft V.It was strange this was Schenker's choice.
I have never played 70's Gibson V so I can not say about them.
The frets are jumbo which is great for me because I prefer jumbo frets.
The neck scale seems to me like short scale like Gibson's.
The string tension is too soft and I would probably need a set of heavier guage.
The headstock still looks strange to me.
I never like this V shape headstock.
I have never been a fan of Dean guitars so that is why and
It just looks too funky on me and can't stand it.

The pickups, probably this is the part I am disappointed about this signature guitar.
I am a huge fan of Schenker and these pickups will not sound like Schenker at all.
On Dean Website, they are described as Dean Scheker pickups.
To me, they look and sound like Dimarzio pickups.
I do believe they are made by Dimarzio for Dean.
And the bridge pickup sounds exactly like Tone Zone.
I love Tone Zone but never expect to have a Tone Zone with the Schenker V..
It just sounds too hot.. "Too hot to handle"?
The neck pickup sounds like Dimarzio PAF.
I still don't understand why they didn't just go with Duncan Custom and 59.
I don't even see Schenker himself is not using these Dean Pickups.
I saw Schenker live pics from 2-3months ago around the NAMM show and his guitar had Black Duncan pickups instead.

"Rock Bottom" line is the guitar is built very well and looks great(minus the headstock).
The pickups are disappointment of this signature guitar but that is to me.
Maybe other people will tell you different stories.
Great pickups but just not Schenker's pickups.

I will post pics of mine as soon as I get my camera and I am sure you will find some other reviews from Dean Forum.
I already saw couple of them today.

Thanks Toru!!

I really dig the headstock, always have, so that's a non issue for me. As for the pickups? As you stated, that's a personal thing between you and a soldering iron.

Great Schenker song references in there, btw.

Re: Dean Schenker, anyone...

I think, buying the cheaper Import and swap the pickups will be good enough.
I have seen these going for $799.
You can sell the pickups(Schenker Dean pickups) and buy Duncans.
That is what I would suggest to those who are interested in Dean Schenker and I have been thinking about it too.

So its a nice guitar but not a keeper is what I getting from your review Toru. No, it wasn't too long of a review either.... to me anyway.
