• Universe finds new home

I picked up a Universe from Diablomozart a few weeks ago. It came with an EMG 707 in the bridge with no other pickups wired up. In order to get the 707 in their, whoever did the work had to recut the pickguard so just popping in the correct Dimarzio wasn't going to be that simple. Nobody that I could find does the correct 3-ply pickguard (black/green/black). Just when I was about to order a black/white/black and take a marker to it, I found http://www.terrapinguitars.com. I had them make me a new pickguiard and matching trussrod cover with a graphic they offered of the Matrix lettering background. The green isn't a perfect match but I think it's pretty cool.

black/green/black was not listed on their site and I didn't get response to e-mail. I like the Matrix guard better anyhow.

Damn Tim! That looks way better than stock. It really works on that guitar. I'd pick that over the black/green/black any day.

Wow, I really like that a lot. And I normally hate pickguards.

Yah Tim, I like what you did and that pickguard looks great.

I wouldnt have pegged you as an Ibanez user though!!!

So how do you like it Tim??
It is one of the few Ibanez guitars I have never owned. The best Ibanez 7 stringer I ever owned was the RG7621.
Isn't the trem outstanding! It looks great with the Matrix graphic.

That looks good, for an Ibanez. j/k bro.

Re: Universe finds new home

So far I am really digging the guitar. This is definitely a players guitar. Lots of wear and tear, dings, scratches, etc. The neck is well worn on the back - plenty of life in the frets though which is pleasantly surprising. I will sand down the neck a bit and then hit it with some linseed oil.

As for tone, it sounds great. I was really happy once I popped out that EMG and wired up the Dimarzios. The neck pickup is creamy and bassy, the middle pickup has lots of great sparkle, and the bridge pickup is just crunchy as hell. The one thing wrong with it is that I somehow screwed up the #2 and 4 positions. I was trying to have them tap the humbuckers as a stock JEM/UV does. They're tapped alright but they sound buzzy, noisy and super thin. I think I may have the middle pickup out of phase.
