No. That's a 2000. Gibson used 6-digit serial numbers on early 70's guitars. Please reference:

          A 1977 serial number would be: 7xxx7xxx

            1975-1977...Number on peghead decal, 2-digit prefix {06=1977} followed by 6-digit number. I highly doubt he's mistaken a 70's LP with a 2000 model.

yep the first and fifth digits in an 8-digit serial # indicate it's year in Gibsons...

There's exceptions to that rule...1975-1977...Number on peghead decal, 2-digit prefix {06=1977} followed by 6-digit number.

It isn't a 2000. The guy bought it new in the 70's. He wants under $1000.00 for it and it is in excellent condition. The reason it is so cheap is because the neck pickup is intermittant!!!! Yippeeeee.. What do you think?

The quest for a Gibson year of build is like searching for the Holy Grail. For those that think every serial number Gibson has used follows the first and fifth digit rule, I have a mountainside retreat on Daytona Beach I'll let go real cheap.

Sounds like a good deal John. Post pics.

Why can't I find thes guitars. Wine Red is about the only Les Paul finish that really makes me drool. Well, that and TV Yellow Juniors from the 50s.

i think this will be a great deal and you can't lose $ for under a grand, but a 77 is not a lot of people's idea of a perfect les paul.

Oh well, it was worth a shot. The guy just sold it to his next door neighbor for $500.00. He told me that the guy has big plans for it. He is going to rip out the pickups and put in some EMG's and get rid of that crappy gold hardware and maybe repaint it because the wine red color looks to old. I told him to tell the guy not to mess with a bone stock original owner 9.5 condition Les Paul Custom but he could care less. Thanks for the info though.
