• Fingerboards with no inlays?

Anyone have a problem getting used to a fingerboard without inlays? I've never owned one, but I'm thinking of possibly picking up a Schecter 7-string without inlays (actually, it's only got an inlay on the 12th fret ). Just wondering if I would get lost or not.

Oh yeah, good point! I do seem to look at the side dots more, especially when standing, but sometimes I like to look at the fingerboard dots when standing up. I guess I should probably try one first for myself and see.

Get some cool looking sunglasses and paint the dots on the lenses. All you have to do is make sure you hold your head just right

I have a PC3 with no inlays. At first I was lost quite a bit but after a while you get used to it.

I never see inlays on fingerboard when I play.
Side dots are enough for me.
If not, you should put some Pokemon stickers on fretboard so you know which fret you are playing.

LOL I think I like Txcharvel's idea about painting dots on sunglasses.

My KS-J2 has no inlays, and it's no problem!
It looks pretty slick that way and the side dots are plenty. I dig no-inlay fingerboards!
There's that certain SL2 that has no inlays, those are some badass looking guitars.

I guess it would depend on how high up on your beergut you wear your guitar, but I wear mine low enough I can never see the inlays anyhow. Side dots is all you need.

Never had a problem with only having an inlay at hte 12th fret. Side dots are all I go buy, though.

I have an Adamas acoustic with no inlays...the side dots work just as well for me. No problems here.

Cool. Thanks, guys! I miss my old Ibanez 7-string and have GAS, so I think I'm gonna order a Schecter 007 Elite from MF and check it out. Plus, having a MF card gives me even more GAS! At least I've got 45 days to put it through its paces to see whether it sucks or not.

If you ever need inlays, here's a link courtesy of Dr Newc:

Hmmm, a great candidate for a Dr. Newcenstein project!

another thing that i like about no inlays is that to a certain degree, we all gravitate toward certain areas of a fretboard naturally. no inlays is kind of a cool way to get yourself out of a rut, if that makes any sense. kinda like playin blindfolded... only not.
