  • Les Paul GAS

Got a bad case of GAS in regards to a Les Paul Studio I found yesterday. 1992 wine red with ebony fingerboard. If it's still there tomorrow (GC is closed today) I'll be throwing it down on layaway. Anybody here know which pickups were stock? I liked the sound of it better than the Special Faded I looked at. Always thought I liked the 498T's which are stock in the Special and I know that's what's in the new Studios.

I think they are 490r/498t if I remember right. I have a wine red one that I think was from 1992 as well, but has a rosewood board. All in all, it was my first real guitar, and I stole it when I got it ($550 if I also remember that correctly). I swapped pickups out tho since the stock ones weren't really my thing.

I never could get into Studios. Honestly, if I was going to get a LP it would at least be a Standard.

Studios are kickass guitars and not all are not frills. My friend has a wine colored with nice big inlays gold hardware and pickup covers-sweet guitar plays and sounds incredible.

I know on paper a Studio is just a less fancy Standard, but in all my years I have yet to find a Studio that plays or feels near as good as a decent Standard.

I had a '93 Studio in black, with gold hardware, and ebony fretboard. It is the one guitar, I wish I had never sold.

Well, I went to see about playing it some more and compare to my second choice, the Faded Special. I didn't think there was enough difference in the sound to justify the Studio, so I may get one of those Specials later this summer. Or just keep saving and keep looking. Still trying to find an Epiphone Genesis around here.

Seriously disappointed in Guitar Center, I tried playing through a Hot Rod Deluxe as that's what I'm playing through now. A brand new amp in the store crapped out on me. And when it was working it sucked compared to my own (which is stock except for the tubes). Tried to compare an Epiphone Standard but the nut on the jack had fallen off and the jack was pushed into the body. Had to try two different Specials as the first had a loose jack. Kinda makes me afraid of buying anything there. Thanks for the input!

And now I found one!! Languishing in a pawn shop and liberated for a mere $60. That'll scratch that Les Paul itch for a while.

I have a Studio Lite I got for 400 bucks, love the slim taper 60's neck on it!

That doesn't look like a Les Paul at all! It reminds me more of the Gretsch that Malcolm Young plays. Anyway, the Specials just went down in price at GC, to about $629 I think. If you want one in a box, just ask for one, or request that they get one from another store (Its called a SIT)
