  • Warlock bass-Whaddya think?

My friend's picking up a Warlcok bass out of the friend. Right now we're currently torn between the Platinum and the NJ (torn because of budget). My biggest conern is the action. Is it any good? I can't stand teaching somebody to play guitar when they're constantly fighting the action. I recommend to almost all beginning bassists to buy a Rogue. Sure they sound like ass, but at least they play nice. I hate almost all cheap basses for that reason, action isn't set up worth a shit. Between the two, I really don't care too much how they sound but how they play. Sound can be fixed at this level, but playabilty will be harder.

    Any replies are greatly appreciated.

Okay thanks guys, it really helps.

I was reading some reviews on MF, and many people said they had problems with the electronics and the input jack falling out. I'm guessing the input jack can be fixed by inserting toothpicks and rescrewing it on, but what can we do about the elctronics? Nothing pisses me off more than resoldering once a week, that game gets old fast.

Again any replies are greatly appreciated.

New pots from Stewmac will help, and new pickups from Ebay (EMG, Duncan, Fender, whatever).
And don't bag the Platinum too bad - Rob Marcello of Danger Danger was tearing one to pieces at Summer NAMM last year (guitar, though, not a bass). It was an older Neon Pink one, and I don't know if they moved production around (i.e. Japan to Korea, etc).

I'd seriously recommend NOT going with MF when there are tons of better deals on Ebay.

Thansk Newc, I'll recommend that to him. He's a starting bassist, so he doesn't really know the importance of tone. If the guitar looks cool and inspires him to play, that's much better than something that sounds awesome and doesn't inspire him. That also brings me to the point that I mentioned earlier-playability. If a starting guitarist has to fight his guitar the whole time, practicing will be even less likely. So a combination of cool looks and easy to play is good enough for me. Tone can be helped to, as you mentioned with better pickups and electronics. Granted that doesn't solve everything, but I think we can pull a really nice guitar out of the mix.

Thanks for the tips guys, it means a lot.

Hey, what do you know? This bass looks sweet! Much better than the one on MF, and cheaper too:

                http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...310384588&rd=1

Much better guitar. Neck through! Quilted Maple with ebony fingerobard too. Ooh, pretty. Still needs better pups, but this is definetely workable.

The guy's got a good feedback report too. Sweet.

Again thanks for the replies guys!
