Glenn's is sometimes called a scarab, but it's the 'Custom GT' Glenn supposedly designed it so the lower horn fit his leg and put the neck in a comfortable position for him. Here is a video of him playing/explaining it.

Thanks guys! The mini V was the one that I was interested in. I guess their new CD has fueled my interest!

          Hey Guys,
I was just wondering if anyone knew if Hamer ever put out a K.K. Downing model. If so does anyone have any pics?

          [/ QUOTE ]

Yep, I own one. A great guitar for sure, though
I realize a lot of folks hate the Kahler trem.
Got it brand new in '85. Not sure how many were
built, but I don't think it was a lot...

I know a guy with a red/black Sceptre V just like in the pic on the previous page. He bought it from the same guy I bought my BCR Beast from. Cool guitar.

A (former) JCFer from Colorado right. If yes, then that is his guitar.

                    Re: Hamer K.K. Downing model

Time for my first post! I ran into one of these V's in '93 and then again in '94. I bought it the second time I saw it, figuring there was a greater purpose. The guy was talking crazy stuff, but I bought the guitar. He said he was a tech for the Priest and KK gave it to him. He said it was the prototype for KK's most famous axe. Price was $600 the first time $500 the second. I called Hamer and waded through the Kaman Empire to the "old guy who knows all the Hamer stuff". He said that if the guitar had the artist name on it in SCRIPT, then it was a mass production model. If it was simple type-face like arial or something, then it was specifically made for the artist. I see by the Scepter V pics, there is no name above the Hamer logo. Oh yeah, Scepter V guys, are your necks fully scalloped? This one is, and there is a name above the Hamer logo. It is written as "k.k. DOWNING", no italics. She's vintage white, been through a war or three, but kranks! This guy also gave me a set of strings for KK (with his name stamped on the bags) and I got a 20 foot tour cable with "Judas Priest" printed on the white plug boots. The interesting thing is the guitar neck wouldn't set up correctly with the 8's on it. I've really wondered if KK said "Looks cool, but try again - I hate 9's!!!" Maybe one day I'll be able to authenticate all of this (yeah, like I'm gonna get to meet KK). Anyone want to see pics?

                      Re: Hamer K.K. Downing model

I was there with UlimateWarrior when he got the kk, and it went down like he says. The guy had tons of kahler bridge parts and other stuff a tech would aquire over the years. He also spoke of different tours and road stories and such, and told us things we didn't need to hear about Rob Halford. We were there for a couple hours with this guy!

.....oh yeah, and it was one of those things out of myth and legend - MountainDog drove us out for about an hour on these back dirt roads bumping and cutting in his Big Ol' Blazer...............very wierd but very cool...
