Re: My new ESP Holoflake

Please give more input on the EMG81 - Is it too limiting (being the only pickup), or is it the only thing you need? I have a DK2 with a JB, and another guitar with a Sceamin' Demon, so I'm looking for something crunchy with this guitar. Old Mettalica, or Megadeth.

For that sound, I think you'll be pretty happy with the EMG-81. You can get very crunchy with an 81, though the amp settings would be somewhat different than with a JB, since the 81 has more output and is better balanced, in my opinion.
In my '80s ESP Mirage Custom, the previous owner put a Gibson 500T in the bridge, and I have left it that way. A very crunchy, high-output pickup similar to a Duncan Distortion. But my Mirage is a bit different than your M1, however, in that my Mirage is all-maple, and therefore probably a bit brighter sounding.
