Brad Gillis Fender strat from '86! Well, close...

Well, as close as I'm going to get for awhile, until I pry XXX Brad's from his grip. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] Check it out - found this at a local music store. It's an '86 Japanese strat. Has the right colored headstock even! Here's what I'm going to change:

1) floyd rose nut, get rid of the craptacular one on there
2) gloss black pickguard, get rid of the matte black one
3) change out the bridge pickup, likely duncan custom custom
4) knobs to black 'fender style' - these are fugly
5) chrome OFR

I'm not going to worry about putting in a plate where the jack normally is on a strat, or anything real drastic just yet. Once I make those mods, I should be decently close for now.

Still waiting on Brad to sell me that BG Fernandes strat, but this will tide me over. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

I see you took my advice to convert a contempo strat- should be a fun project for ya. That looks like the third version but the bridge doesn't look right for a 3rd version, so who knows. I may have to do one myself someday.

Very cool Shawn. I really dig the red/black pickguard look.

Charvelguy - I just found this thing, it basically fell into my lap. I'm not one to fight fate. I still want XXX Brad's Fernandes though, but this will tide me over until it's available. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

Now to hope that my local repair guy will be able to convert the neck easily to a floyd lock-nut... I guess if I have to I can try to use a router on it, but I'd much rather let a pro do it.

Just watched a live Night Ranger DVD from 1983 over the weekend. What a rockin' set! They have got to be one of the most underrated guitar bands of all time. Brad Gillis and Jeff Watson burn it up on every song.

Can't wait to see them on the 23rd.

I had one of those in Gun Metal Grey. It was a really sweet player. My first real guitar. I wish I had kept her.

Those are pretty rare, and last time I checked a while back, they blue-booked really well and were selling for more than when they were brand new.

By the time I'm done Xeno, you probably wouldn't recognize it. An image that will always stick in my head was seeing a Night Ranger TV concert from the 80's and watching Brad Gillis hold his guitar horizontal using just the Floyd Rose.

This isnt quite on subject. But I met Kelly Keagy the other day. What a great guy. Super nice and very personable. Just thought id throw that in since we were talkin about Night Ranger.
