I guess that these were made with rosewood boards left over from the Custom Shop when they determined that EVH was not going to renew his contract with Peavey. That said, the fit and finish on this one is much better than the other Wolfgang Standard that I had.

Re: New Wolfie
Sweet! I wanted to order a Custom Shop Wolfie last year with a rosewood board and mahogany body. I probably should have, but who knew they weren't going to be around much longer? I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

Not my cup of tea for a Wolfie (rosewood board and fixed tail) but sweet none the less. Congrats!

That's exactly my cup of tea for the Wolfie. I'm a fixed bridge/rosewood board fan.

Re: New Wolfie
Yeah, a coupla months ago you couldn't have paid me to play a rosewood-boarded guitar. Now I love 'em.
The rosewood (along with the maple top) gives this Wolfgang Standard a much darker and mellower tone than my Wolfgang Special with all Basswood body and maple neck/board.
The Wolfgang Standard is a great all around guitar with quite a few tones to be had. The Wolfgang Special is like the Soldano Avenger I had: A one-trick pony that does that one trick (hard rockin') EXTREMELY WELL.

Fritz - if you still have the special, put it on the neck pickup and play through a low gain amp on the vetta, like the budda with the tube screamer. It gets a KILLER lower gain tone - also, the neck pickup on the specials I have even do a decent clean. It's a really warm and full tone. I gotta disagree about the specials being one trick ponies!
