Is that an image of [insert favorite religious icon here] on the guitar??? They should put that one on eBay and sell it for millions. Hey, if it can be done with a half-eaten cheese sandwich ...

Correction: The difference between their Showcase page parts and their custom order parts is the wait time. The price is the same.

For example, let's there's a maple Strat neck with rosewood board and MOP dots, bone nut, 10-16" compound radius, standard thin profile, and jumbo frets available in the Showcase page for $200.00. But, if a neck exactly like that is not available in the Showcase page so that you have to ask them to build it for you ("custom order"), it would cost EXACTLY $200.00 to have it made, plus the waiting time for them to make it.

My brother originally wanted the ebony-boarded maple Precision Bass neck with indestructible stainless steel frets on the Showcase page months ago but somebody bought the neck out from under him just a day before submitting his fax containing his order!!!! He wanted another one done but he would have had to wait. So, he settled for a pao ferro boarded Jazz Bass neck also from the Showcase page instead.

NOTP, what was the finish on your brothers bass and was it done by Warmoth?
Couldn´t find the thread about it.

NOTP - I've found that the prices in the Showcase are often substantially lower than the order-it-yourself price. Particularly if anything sits around for a month or more.

Re: Has anyone ever done a Estimate with Warmoth f

NOTP, I've gotten stuff from the showcase for cheaper than ordering it to be made. A lot of the stuff in there has a grain that the customer may not have been happy with or a satin finish applied instead of a gloss. I bought a crazy flamed maple Jackon neck from the showcase with an ebony board, stainless frets, 24 fret extension and abalone dots. finished in satin for under $350 which is cheaper than if I had it made (I think it would have been $400, but I can't remember). I have seen stuff in there that was the same price however. I think you just need to be at the right place at the right time to catch a deal.

Man I'm gasin for a warmoth project after this thread. I'm thinking a LP special (double cut) arctop body and an explorer neck.

Re: Has anyone ever done a Estimate with Warmoth f

Oh yeah, forgot about them blowing out older stock. It's a gamble though... some people wait until the second they slash the price, and then snag it right out from under you.

My beef with them is that they don't do headstock binding! Maybe I could "custom" order that... and there's always fake binding courtesy of automotive pinstriping tape.

And they also don't do custom inlay with shell material (MOP/abalone). But there's always shell overlay courtesy of www.fretware.com...

If these two things were available through warmoth, I'd have a lot of warmoth parts mutts!

I wish they did the small cavity route like the early san dimas, especially on the star bodies. I really dislike that huge control cavity, even on new jacksons.

Best to save a Warmoth search on eBay and have them email you automatically with new listings. They go dirt cheap there. Just be patient. You may even find a 2 hum body with no neck and you can buy a 24.75" conversion neck.

Re: Has anyone ever done a Estimate with Warmoth f

As an example of savings from the Warmoth Showcase. I got this body today. It cost $189.

It is a hollow strat body made out of Anagre with a Zebrawood top and a black fiber pinstripe layer. It has a contoured heel as well.

A hollow top route strat body is normally at least $232 with a zebra top - the site doesn't list what an anagre would cost but I'd assume it's no cheaper, probably more. The contoured heel is a $35 up charge. The black pinstripe isn't even normally offered on hollow bodies but is a $20 upgrade on laminate tops otherwise. That comes up to at least $287. So basically getting it from the Showcase saved me at least $100 and they still did additional routing for me at no additional charge.

The body looks pretty good upon initial inspection. I'm looking forward to this guitar.

I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

Nice score Tim! If you are flexible and not locked into specific specs, you can build a great guitar at a decent price. Any plans for it yet?
