I had a look at a Wolfgang today, but don't know anything about them. Looked ok (although where the fingerboard overlaps the body there was a gap under one side - it was flush at the other side, but the front's an arch top, so would you expect this?). Played ok & the licensed Floyd with D-tuner seemed to work ok. Anyone out there played one who could offer opinion on them? How would you know they're the real deal (USA made?) & not one of the cheaper versions?

Re: Peavey Wolfgangs
i own a wolfgang archtop standard and really like it.
it is a solid black archtop, maple fretboard, and a t-o-m bridge.
it's a great playing and great sounding guitar.
the pickups sound great for a rock sound, not very versatile, but sounds great distorted.
the craftsmanship on my guitar is pretty much perfect, fingerboard, fretboard was on par with anything in the $1000-$1500 range of guitars.
i also owned a musicman/ernie ball axis/axis super sport.
if you like the wolfgang, you probably would like these also.
i've had several of these and everyone was flawless in construction.
the fretwork is even better than the wolfgangs, and the pickups are less aggressive, and have more range in my opinion.

Re: Peavey Wolfgangs
Thanks for the reply. I also have a Musicman Axis Supersport & love it. It was having the Axis S/S that made me look at the Peavey. The Peavey played great - I usually overdrive my amp anyway so the more aggresive the pickup the better! It was just my concern over the fretboard/archtop join, which just didn't look correctly finished on the one I looked at, that stopped me buying it - does yours have any gap in this area, or does the overhang of the fretboard lay flush with the archtop on both sides?Wal - Good from far, but far from good

Re: Peavey Wolfgangs
If anyone else reads this & is interested - there's a site at http://www.wolfgangguitars.com/index.htm that has info on Wolfgangs - now at least I know the model I was looking at! If anyone else has experience of the Wolfgang Standard or Standard Deluxe & can comment on the neck join & tell me if I'm too paranoid, I'd appreciate it! :coolWal - Good from far, but far from good

Re: Peavey Wolfgangs
I have a Wolfgang Archtop Standard, and yes the neckjoint is flush on both sides. You can also get good prices on the bay (although thev'e gone up since Ed went on tour last year)They are great sounding and well built guitars. Here's mine that used to be Gloss Ivory...........

There also the stock Wolfgang pick-ups with white "bobbin toppers" to match the white stripes.(cream colored underneath)"When a naked man is chasing a woman through an ally with a butcher's knife and a hard-on, I figure he isn't out collecting for the Red Cross"............ Dirty Harry

Re: Peavey Wolfgangs
I agree. They are great. I had a goldtop standard with EBMM EVH pickups in it and I can honestly say I sounded and played better with that guitar than any other guitar I have ever owned. Why the heck did I sell it? Go figure.

Re: Peavey Wolfgangs
Thanks for the input guys. After seeing all your comments, I admit I'm still feeling the urge to buy a Wolfgang & you don't see many over here............The EVH stripe finish on bob_77's Standard looks cool too. The neck join on the Standard I looked at didn't stop it playing well, but I don't want to shell out the cash on something someone's bodged together. The other concern was the whammy - is it supposed to be a Licensed Floyd or an original Floyd with d-tuner? The one I looked at was stamped Peavey & the manual I downloaded suggested that that was correct - but there's nothing like all your experiences with the guitar to ease my fear!Wal - Good from far, but far from good

Re: Peavey Wolfgangs
Try to get an Early Wolfgang, my black standard was a pantant pending one and was probally the best guitar I've ever owned, With the right amp it'll do any thing from country to any type of metal you play
Not my bike yet but hopefully by the end of summer, it's that or a vette. I'm so missing my 96 ZX6RI've fallen, Fallen through. If I'm Not With you, All I wanna Do Is Feel blue

Re: Peavey Wolfgangs
I had a Wolfgang and I loved it. it was a USA carved to with a trem. The trem is a licensed Floyd with a peavey stamp on the bass side. I've seen new ones and used ones with and with out the D-Tuna not that thats a hard mod to make. I miss my wolfgang and will probably by another when the timing and price are right. Or if a MM Axis comes my way i may get that. Either way they're both great guitars.

Re: Peavey Wolfgangs
I prefer the USA specials personally... tone of those are just less high-endy and have more punch, at least the 4 specials I had versus the two standards. Wolfgang necks are my favorite - I'd love to have a jackson with a wolfgang profile neck. The EBMM's I've played were nice, but I didn't like the small frets, the body shape or the headstock shape. I just prefer the wolfgang, but there are many who disagree with me.
