I fell in love with the quilt when I saw it on e-bay. serial begins 910 - so it's from the Leakesville factory, I think. I'm going to go to the Peavey forum at some stage to check dates & places. It sounds good too - quite bassy compared to my axis supersport. The only quirk is a small maple shim (the lacquer goes over it, so it's "as made") under the locking nut. Don't know if the neck was cut too deep at this point & the shim was added to raise the nut over the fretboard?

Update - I got some info. from the guy who created the wolfgangguitars.com website. The guitar was originally a purple flame top, hard tail Wolfgang Standard. It's been re-topped & the Floyd installed - the maple shim at the nut is to raise the new locking nut that replaced the old standard one. So it isn't a Peavey custom shop custom - I don't know who re-topped it, but it's a good job. It's already "famous" - have a look at the bottom guitar on this page

I bought it as a Custom shop Wolfgang - I do prefer my guitars unmodified, but this one has been done really well & looks great. Anyone out there know how it would effect pricing? (It probably cost a small fortune for the modifications - but now it isn't "original"). I'll probably join the Peavey forum to see if anyone knows it's history.

very nice quilttop!

as a saw the picture i thought i coulnd´t be an original top, it is too good. there weren´t much nice quilts around.
and the second thing why i thought it isn´t original is, because the 1st year quilts were only made in red, amber, purple and sunburst. no blue or green or something else.

here is a pix of my "van halen guitars".
a refinished US special, a refinished parts mutt strat, a US 1st year quilttop and a transblack EBMM EVH.




the easiest way how to tell if a wolfie is korean is by the word "SPECIAL" on the headstock!

if the "SPECIAL" starts under the leftside of the "G" of wolfganG and ends under the middle of tuner of the high e-string, than it is a Korean or EXP.
on a US special the word starts under the right-side of the "G" of wolfgang and ends nearly at the edge of the headstock.
the size of the letters of "SPECIAL" is eaven bigger on an EXP than on a US made.

all EXPs have quilttop vaneers and a cheaper floyd.

the PUPs are the same on all wolfgang guitars. nevermind if it is a EXP, a US special, a US flametop special or a US std. all have the same PUPs!

Cheers - nice collection! I'm still trying to find out who did the retop on mine - Geoff at Wolfgangguitars.com had an early picture he'd been sent by the guy who commissioned the new finish, but hadn't got the details. The story was that it was a world class luthier who did it, but I don't know who. It really is a fabulous job. I've played it a bit now & it's really nice - I'm really starting to enjoy the feel of the "unfinished" maple necks (I also have an EBMM Supersport). I'll be watching e-bay & local traders closely for more (once I've got the cash!)...........

i was looking for a wolfgang US flametop a few weeks ago to complete the collection, but then i ordered John Petrucci EBMM 6-string with all options. [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

I have a very early trans purple Archtop with Floyd w/D-tuna..

it still has the ol' tagger on it...no , don't touch it..

Update - still no info. on who did the retop on my Wolfgang. BUT someone on the Wolfgang Registry forum recognised mine & had the picture from the original e-bay listing in the US. Mine has a brother (or sister) & it's a real looker too:-



Anyone out there recognise them & know the owner or who could have done the work?

Have you tried GMW, it was kicked around at one time that they did your wolfgang on some forum I was hanging outon.

i also think, that GMW did the retop of the wolfgangs.
